“Name promises more, but”
Reviewed February 18, 2013

Disappointing. Name promises more than you get. Typical 70´s century building. The rooms need renovation. The bathroom had a bathtub, weird. Breakfast was lousy, it was all dry, orange juice was water, dishes were tasteless. If you got on the table to get something more, the staff took your plate, even though there was still food. Car parking was expensive.

My friend had booked a room for one night in this particular hotel. In the check-in we encountered a problem with the discount offer that we were about to use through our trade union. My friend’s student membership wasn’t allowed but luckily I had my adult membership certificate at home in the near area so I ran to get it. On one hand it was a bit unprofessional that all members of the staff didn’t know about the rules but on the other hand the ladies at the desk managed the situation very well. They were flexible and let us keep our baggage at the hotel. One of them asked us come straight to her when we would be back and let us know how long she would still be in a shift.
The overall picture of the hotel is quite average for a chain hotel of that level. They had a weird employee as a bag carrier who didn’t know much Finnish and had strange clothes. The cleaners were still at the halls and smelled bad. One of them knocked our door and came to told that the soap wasn’t well attached so that we wouldn’t complain about it later. The people there at a weekend were mostly of the party-type.
Still our room was beautiful and big with a great view and the range of breakfast was great. When it got later plenty of the residents gathered together to the hotel lounge. The location is probably the best attribute of the hotel to make it stand out. The staff was friendly but not really present in that way you would wish them to be when being served. Though it was great that in the morning we were able to make the check-out later with just a phone call.

Sokos Hotel President is good hotel near bus and train stations. Trams go nearby, too. Finlandia House, Music House, some art museums and shopping centers are nearby and some department stores (Sokos, Stockmann). The breakfast is good enough, rooms are clean and there is the night club downstairs. I have been several times one or two nights there alone or with my wife and I like the place.

I will break down my review by category:

Front Desk Staff: Extremely helpful and friendly. When I checked out in the morning, the printer was not working, but they e-mail me the receipt.

Lobby: Modern and clean. Wish the rooms were this nice.

Rooms: Thin mattresses, uncomfortable. Internet was good. Flat screen TV's. Looked more like a dorm room then a hotel room. Bathroom fixtures needed updating. Hallways looked very old.

Breakfast: Decent. Only issue would be if you are staying here for many days. I was here for three mornings and the same food was serverd every morning.

It was time just after New Year celebration - 2.01 - 4.01.
Hotel was completely overcrowded. Groups of tourists, some school sports teams, alone travellers - there was a crowd of people near reception.
But personnel on reception was very polite, pleasant and executive.
Breakfast was quite good. Hotel location - very good.
We was family of 3, the standard room for us was spacious.
Sauna and swimming pool were small (for such big hotel) and also overcrowded, so I was not able to evaluate them.
About cleanliness - all open spaces in room were OK, but when I moved (a bit) extra bed from window (just in case, I was afraid of draft from window for my daughter - but window was OK to tell the truth) - behind the bed I found pieces of dust and old broken tube from cream.

Was staying at this facility in winter. Rooms were adequate as I was only in for 2 days. What's more important is that it is within easy reach to all of Helsinki as there are numerous eateries nearby including the Big Mac and the shopping district is within walking distance. Not only is the main railway station is but a hop away but the main tourist sites like the cathedrals, Christmas markets, Senate Square etc are within walkable distances even in the cold. If you need to take the ferry to Tallin or Fortress Suomenlinna They also a short taxi hop away or a tarm ride from just outside the hotel. These would make a good day trip for those that can find the time to do so.

Breakfast was also adequate as it is almost the same fare throughout Finland so not much to compare.

would recommend staying at this facility if you want convenience especially to move around.

This hotel is normal. No better and no worse than similar. The well-known hotel chain with a good level of comfort. Room of sufficient size, plumbing, bed linen without comment. Wireless Internet works. Breakfast is good. The biggest plus of the hotel is its location: the railway station, bus station, subway at a distance of 3-5 minutes of slow walking
