“Very small, dirty and noisy room, but yes, cheap”
Reviewed December 3, 2012

The price of the room is low (€45), but the quality of the room is even lower. The floor was dirty and the pillow terribly old and uncomfortable (didn't use it). The bed sheets are also very old. The room is small and feels like a prison cell. It was warm though, and the bathroom was clean, new and with strong comfortable showers. The internet is too expensive at €5 per day, and also the breakfast is too much at €8 for a hostel, but the food is nice. The shared kitchen is very poorly equipped, sometimes with no cups available. Thin walls, so pretty noisy, but at least it wasn't very busy in November. Basically, wouldn't recommend it, better to pay a bit more for nicer room.

EuroHostel Helsinki. The rooms are tidy and basic but the Hostel is rather expensive. The feel to the place is it tying to be a hotel? Everything costs money. WiFi is 5€ per day, breakfast costs 7€ you need to put a 10€ deposit on a key to put your stuff in the fridge. Which has locked boxes inside the fridge. There is a restaurant below which serves very basic food but quite good and reasonable prices for Helsinki. Some of the staff were very helpful while others seamed annoyed by us asking questions.
The bathrooms are clean, the kitchen/ kind of common area is clean but very limited. There are plates, bowels, knives and forks and only 2 cups. Which your NOT aloud to remove but they were never there. There is no kettle or toaster.
The hostel is very close to a tram stop which takes you straight into the city centre and right to the main station.
We enjoyed our stay in Helsinki.

I stayed here for five nights and left very satisfied. The hostel is right next to a street train stop, which made it very easy to get to the city center quickly. The room itself was fairly small, but really clean as were the showers and toilet facilities. There was also a kitchen with eating and cooking utensils at the end of the hall that was available for use at no extra charge. The front desk staff spoke good English. There is a sauna on the top floor.

The good things first:
The location is really good. It is just around the corner of one of the ports where ferries to Tallinn arrive & depart, the city centre with shopping facilities,..., rail station, etc. are convenient to reach with public transport.
The staff is really friendly and endeavour to ask any questions about getting around, etc. - mostly in good English. You can sort out a lot of things directly at reception desk (buying tickets for public transport, timetables of airport buses,...)

Unfortunately the room was not as clean as expected (everywhere dust, greasy-sticky dirt on the table) and the provided cover for the duvet (covering the beds was self-service) had some orange stains like make-up. After asking for another one this turned out to have stains again like. Furthermore the rooms have kind of a hospital flair which doesn't make you feel very comfortable. Although Helsinki is an expensive city, the advertisement and description put another thought in your mind.

The mean- machine - a XXL size TV which was supposed to provide wake-up calls, TV, radio, internet,... was neither working nor self explaining and for only two nights I didn't bother further.

The bathroom facilities were very basic and with minimal privacy.

There is a possibility to store your luggage for a short time though this room is tiny and so packed that you can practically barely do so.

Overall: recommended for backpackers or if you need a decent stay as cheap as you can get (given Helsinki's price level) and you don't mind the ambience... if not you'd better spend some quid more

Upgradet backpacker hotel, close to Viking line terminal, market and station. Cleanness and spacious rooms. Breakfast is a little bit of chaos when the hotel is fully booked. Anyhow Helsinki has a lot of wonderful cafes and the market as well as the market halls are close by.

Room Tip: Back yard rooms less noisy
