You have to first accomplish the large number of steps from the main square to the Cathederal! Once inside it was well worth the visit, but as there are a number of "Weddings" Taking place around Midday when they then close the Cathederal it would be advisable to visit the Cathederal in the morning

I was a bit shocked when I saw it empty. Is not look like a normal cathedral is different. Good to see.

This is a very plainly decorated church inside but quite beautiful. We visited the crypt where they have art exhibitions and there is also a cafe. There is a lift to get to the crypt. There is information about the church and its history.

The cathedral stands majestic for everyone to see. It is truly an iconic landmark of Helsinki, and a must visit for tourists. I love churches that let people from other religions visit and ask around. Some are just so restricting, but the churches in Finland were truly beautiful, and open to the public. I love it. It was an eye-opening or enlightening experience. Of course, we have to take pictures from the stairs and from the Senate Square with the cathedral looming in the background. Postcard perfect!

This little coffee and tea shop is a wonderful place to get away from it all. A peaceful sanctuary serving excellent coffee, tea and home-made pastries, sandwiches, and savory pies, it is in the crypt of the Lutheran Cathedral and can be accessed by the lift in the north end of the cathedral or by going outside along Kirkkokatu. There were two art shows of paintings going on in the crypt, both nicely arranged outside of the cafe space. The cafe sound system was softly playing some very beautiful music from the "Cantores Minores", the cathedral's boys choir, giving the stone and brick crypt an atmosphere of solace. The proceeds of the sale of the food and drink go to the boys choir, so not only is it good food, but it is for a good cause. When you get into the cafe space, there is central table laden with sweet rolls, water, candy, fruit, and many, many coffee cups. The servers were very good, and spoke English to us and German to another couple. Although we didn't try the sandwiches, we tried a couple of the savory pies and the sweet rolls. The savory pies were briefly warmed in the microwave before serving. We went at about 11:30AM (it opens at 11) and were the only ones there until noon, when about ten people came in. It is too bad it is not given a place in the restaurant section of Tripadvisor because it out-classes many coffee shops, is very cheap (the most expensive thing is the cheesecake at 4 Euros), is very clean, and, by the way, has great restrooms (everything stainless steel and immaculate).
