This little coffee and tea shop is a wonderful place to get away from it all. A peaceful sanctuary serving excellent coffee, tea and home-made pastries, sandwiches, and savory pies, it is in the crypt of the Lutheran Cathedral and can be accessed by the lift in the north end of the cathedral or by going outside along Kirkkokatu. There were two art shows of paintings going on in the crypt, both nicely arranged outside of the cafe space. The cafe sound system was softly playing some very beautiful music from the "Cantores Minores", the cathedral's boys choir, giving the stone and brick crypt an atmosphere of solace. The proceeds of the sale of the food and drink go to the boys choir, so not only is it good food, but it is for a good cause. When you get into the cafe space, there is central table laden with sweet rolls, water, candy, fruit, and many, many coffee cups. The servers were very good, and spoke English to us and German to another couple. Although we didn't try the sandwiches, we tried a couple of the savory pies and the sweet rolls. The savory pies were briefly warmed in the microwave before serving. We went at about 11:30AM (it opens at 11) and were the only ones there until noon, when about ten people came in. It is too bad it is not given a place in the restaurant section of Tripadvisor because it out-classes many coffee shops, is very cheap (the most expensive thing is the cheesecake at 4 Euros), is very clean, and, by the way, has great restrooms (everything stainless steel and immaculate).
