“Not quite as luxurious as expected?”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 10, 2012

This was one of two Hotels we stayed at in the city. Small elegant rooms and a great spot, close to everything in central Helsinki.

Generally Hotel Kamp has a feeling of quality but we were a tad disappointed. Couldn't quite place my finger on it - breakfast? OK without being great; Facilities? Once again good, not superb; Price? As expected for this kind of location; Service? Competent but not particularly friendly.

Maybe its because we were so pleasantly surprised in all of the above categories at the OTHER hotel we stayed in, just 100 metres away...

I spent more than a week with my husband in Helsinki. We choose the Kamp very carefully, and I think, absolutely well decided. The room was just fantastic, very cozy, elegant, tasteful, lot of detailes to make our stay more comfortable. Every time we cannot wait to enter the room, changing the lights. The heating was very good also.
We didn't have breakfast or meals in the hotel, I agree, it's very expensive, should be complimentary with the room.
Beautiful Helsinki with a wonderful hotel - was like a honeymoon for us. No negative points.

We used platinum AMX to book our hotel and were given an upgrade to jr. Suite, plus 100 euro credit in restaurant for dinner. The room was large and clean with nice view of park. We had a queen bed instead of king bed but good lighting for reading in bed.
Breakfast was included and they do a very nice job with selection of breads and omlets.
The location is perfect for getting around the shopping and sight seeing.
Lunch in street cafe was very expensive but delicious, club sandwich was 22 euro.
Good choice in hotel.

We have been staying at the Kamp Hotel over many years. I once said it was " like arriving home". The deterioration started a couple of years ago, we noticed changes such as the bathroom accessories - from a large luxury range to smaller very cheap one. We've been loyal customers, therefore decided to speak to the General Manager. We had a very good meeting and it gave us the opportunity to air our concerns. Nothing changed, their standards have continued declining, staff changes have resulted in more bad service - last visit I was totally ignored whilst two waiters held a loud personal conversation in the breakfast annex. The sauna/spa is a big issue (remember this is Finland) Closing at midday (12 noon) on weekends. Of course the decline is all about cost cutting. They are still busy because of their business trade and I notice they are taking many bus tour groups. If like us, you wish to stay more than 1 night then The Kamp is not the Hotel to cater for you - there are others that really want to look after their guests. One good note is that there are 2 Bell Boys that give a wonderful welcome and have been working there since the good days.

Excellent hotel. Elegant rooms and with traditional decor, a bit worn, but still delivers a great experience. Huge marble bathroom - complete with rubber ducky in the tub! Service was friendly and helpful and the location is also perfect for restaurants and shopping in downtown Helsinki. There is a great Sunday brunch.

Stayed two nights in deluxe twin room for 418 Euro (non-refundable best available rate). I have stayed in six different hotels in Helsinki so far and Kamp is definitely the best. The location is exceptional as well as the service. The breakfast is fine, though for 29 Euro per person could have been better. The watermelon was frozen and the choice of cold cuts limited. The room was huge and very comfortable. The TV has a movie-channel in English. The only feature that I would probably change is to get rid of a vast array of old books next to the bed. They produce a somewhat musty smell. The windows are securely locked, so a/c is the only source of any air in the room.

Great location, old world charm but hotel feels tired and I wouldn't say it's high end. The furniture is definitely worn down both in the lobby and in the rooms. The bathrooms are quite nice and modern, however. The restaurant was a bit dark and overpriced (15 EUR for a latte + a croissant). Service was attentive and efficient although not polished or particularly friendly. Overall, it's fine, a nice place to stay. Given it's not that expensive it's not a bad deal, but definitely not the type of place you remember as a superstar hotel. That said, I asked around about other options in Helsinki and for those who travel on business and need infrastructure (fast internet, 24hr room service, etc) seems like Kamp is the most popular choice.
