“My Favorite Part of Helsinki”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 20, 2014

Every morning they set up shop and every afternoon take it down. As we left at 4:30 am for the airport, many vendors had already started construction. It is amazing what they do every day. The college girls running the shops were delightful. The food was excellent. The gifts were the best place to shop in Helsinki. Overall, I wish we had spent more time here and less time in places like Porvoo. This seemed more authentic than the other tourist traps.

“Best market place in Helsinki for food”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 9, 2014

Here in this market place where you can find the best fresh food in Helsinki to a lower price than in the downtown.
It is little aside from the main center but worth a visit. Easy to access with a tram for example.
A lot of small shops with all kind of stuff in 2 floors. You have also a possibility for a meal or a coffee here in some of the small bars.
Outside is also a market place for food and other stuff, less tourist stuff due to its location, about 1.5 kilometer from the railway station.

“Small, pricey but no harm done to just have look.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 9, 2014

A rather small place with a line of tents with a variety items ranging from local craft, souvenirs to food.
One has to pass through it if one arrives by cruise ferry.

A lot depends on the weather.
Though we were there in June, it was quite windy, chilly and rainy.
The tents billowed out quite making things difficult both for buyers and sellers.

Started closing from 4-4.30 pm onward when we were there

Can be visited for souvenirs and local knick-knacks.
But, they are certainly not cheap for the most part.

“Best to visit on a sunny day”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 30, 2014

The square was empty - there were mayby 5 stalls with "old rubbish".
Also the market hall was close to empth - half of the stalls closed, and there were very few visitors.
Prices very, very high - and from what we just saw the quality did not support such prices!
Unfortunately not a good day for a visit to the place - however, probably better on a day with lots of stalls and activities, based on other visitors recommendations here on Tripadvisor!

“Very small and expensive!!”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 27, 2014 via mobile

We came to Helsinki on a cruise ship and just planned to spend the day in the city to explore!

However, the city itself is very plain and expensive and the weather is always moody!

We had planned to eat lunch at the market square but then found the crepes which ran us 2 euros in other cities to be 13 euros here! Absolutely absurd!!!

Skip the market and eat lunch so where's else!
