“Excellent value”
Reviewed April 20, 2013

Great local food and experience. Don't be put off by it being a buffet as it is re-supplied very steadily (we were sitting close to the buffet!). Good selection of starters and the mushroom soup was superb. Selection of local meats and fish for mains, including reindeer of course! Very friendly staff and excellent value.

“Authentic Finnish Cuisine where Real Finns Dine”
Reviewed April 20, 2013

The Molja is a small, local vintage restaurant located a few minutes north of the Kaupahalli (Market), and half a minute from the tram 6 stop. Supper features a steaming kettle of fresh soup, tasty courses including reindeer meat, fresh potatoes, salmon, and a vareity of seasonal vegetables. The atmosphere is maritime, with many souvenirs of sailing and photos of Helsinki harbors as they looked in the past. This is a place where locals dine. Not yuppified or gentrified like so many others.
One word of advice: be careful in balancing your plate of soup (the meals are buffet style), as it is easy to spill on the uneven floorboards! A very cozy place- in a hi-tech Finland.

“Lovely owners, lovely place, chance to try various finnish food”
Reviewed March 14, 2013

I discovered the palce when I first moved to Helsinki in 2009 and since then I alwasy take my guests and visitors there. They are never disappointed. I would go there only for the lovely and friendly couple running the restourant. It's not easy to be recognised and treated so friendly in helsinki...
The place has a warm and cosy atmosphere and the idea of finnish buffet for fixed price is definitely winning. You can try several diferent local things, good quality and honest price.

“Above and beyond”
Reviewed March 14, 2013

We enjoyed a nice variety of traditional home cooked cuisine last night in a comfortable, casual setting. We sat next to the window and ate by candlelight, the atmosphere seemed intimate yet lively. The buffet presentation had the delightful feel of being at a friend's house for dinner. There was a wide selection of cold appetizers from salads, fish and pates. The lingonberries and salmon soup were among my favorites. Dinner options ranged from a tasty reindeer to spiced lamb, baked fish rolls, roast pork, baked, scalloped and mashed potatoes among a few others. For dessert we chose a sea buckthorn parfait. We tried a bit of everything and thoroughly enjoyed our opportunity to sample a generous offering of classic Finnish comfort food at modest prices.

We immediately felt welcome by our courteous and friendly hosts, who were attentive and yet not intrusive. We were never lacking for anything at the table and a return cab was waiting for us outside when we left. They revealed themselves later to be the most exceptional people and earned our everlasting admiration when my husband discovered he had left his glasses there after we had returned to our hotel. He called to ask if he could pick them up the next day and they told us they could drop them off at our hotel on their way home that night since it was not too far away. We were very touched and impressed! When can you ever think of busy restaurant owners going out of their way like that?

Would heartily recommend this terrific family owned restaurant for their original concept, warm environment and outstanding hospitality.

“Nice reasonably price buffet in Helsinki”
Reviewed March 4, 2013

This restaurant offers an interesting buffet with many unusual items. Not sure whether the items are real Finnish but they are interesting and tasty. Superb decor and friendly service. A bit away from the downtown (10 min by foot) but prices more reasonable too.
