Cafe Mellsten is a small cafe by the sea in Haukilahti. The building is old and not too well kept, but there's two nice terraces, one facing the sea; one on the boat harbour side. On a summer day the place is often packed (kids can play on the beach and there's a playground; there's also an ice cream kiosk), winter it's more quiet and only open on weekends or certain days. We visit often both summer and winter because of the sea and the athmosphere of the place; and the view of course (and the hot dogs!). The terrace is open in the winter too, bit reminiscent of skiing resorts - dress warmly! The service is fine, but it's mostly self service, tables are not waited. There's a buffet lunch, hot dogs and the like. If you're looking for fine dining, this is not for you; but if you want outdoors and the sea, you might just like it! Just remember to check their web site to make sure the place is open. Further on the plus side, the prices are very reasonable.
