“Great location, nice spa, friendly staff... and a wedding!”
Reviewed July 31, 2011

My husband and I stayed for 5 nights in this lovely hotel, as guests of a Greek wedding. Having read the previous reviews in Trip Advisor, we went there expecting the best and we were not disappointed.
The location is great, the whole complex is built in a way that you can see the sea view wherever you are (either from breakfast room, the pool, the rooms, or even the spa and the gym). We stayed in 2 different rooms - due to a lot of guests, they had to change us room after 1 night. The first room, Nr. 157, was recently renovated, clean, quiet, with a big bathroom and a great view - it was actually better than the other. The second room, Nr. 101, had even better view, but seemed to have "worn" furniture, old style tv, really had mattress and a bathroom with such a small shower that we had to leave the bath curtain open, so as not to feel claustrophobic.
All people who work there are really friendly and helpful - we would like to thank especially Aggelos. The breakfast was satisfying and the lunch at the porch, with great view, was really good - and cheaper than what we had thought it would be. Generally, we enjoyed greek traditional cuisine all over the island.
The pool was really big, with sea water and great food (pizza etc) if you are too bored to eat somewhere else.
The spa is area is really nice and the gym has such a great view - first time I enjoyed treadmill so much! Unfortunately, we did not have the time to enjoy a massage or other treatment, but hamam, sauna, jacuzzi and spa (all included at the hotel price) were more than enough! All girls who work there are helpful and friendly! I also got the chance to visit the hair salon - since I was invited to the wedding - Stella gave to me what I wanted.
The wedding ceremony was held around the pool and it is true that people who stayed at the hotel without being invited at the wedding might have some trouble with the loud music, but I guess that the best thing would be to ask before you book if the hotel has planned any events.
The whole island is really worth seeing, we will definitely visit Amorgos again and we suggest Aegialis Hotel without a doubt!

Room Tip: If there is an event around the pool, ask for a room which is as far as possible (from the pool)

We stayed at this hotel for 2 nights mid July. We certainly were not disappointed. It was so peaceful, and at times had the olympic sized pool all to ourselves. The staff were amazing, and so friendly. The pool staff were very attentive, making sure all our needs were met. The restaurant staff were wonderful, especially Fotina (maybe wrong spelling), who was so kind to us.
We stayed in an exclusive room, which had views to die for. We were disappointed when the Jacuzzi bath in our room was faulty, which we reported to the reception staff. The next evening they told us how sorry they were, and that they were giving us a present to compensate us for our inconvenience. They had opened up the spa especially for us and we had the outdoor hottub jacuzzi which had uninterupted views of the bay. It was evening and they had lit lots of candles in lanterns all around, we had a platter of fresh fruits and chilled wine. It was magical, especially as it was a full moon, which shone on the ocean below. We spoke at length to Irenee, the owner who told us about Amorgos and the hotel's history..........everyone was so friendly and approachable. We fell in love with beautiful Amorgos and would love to stay at Aegialis Spa Hotel again.

We stayed at the hotel for 3 nights. They gave us a room exactly under the restaurant area and every morning at around 6am we were waken up because of noise. The room had only a very small window (no balcony), the furniture were very old & dirty and there were spiders on the ceiling. And the room rate was 135 euros per night!!!!
In addition, one night before we left, they informed us (via a notice under the door) that they will host a wedding party and they were asking for our understanding! As you can imagine the party ended at 4am and we remained sleepless, due to loud music!!!!
It is unacceptable to host wedding parties during high season just because they want to earn extra money.
My advice is to stay away from this hotel!!!!!

******* Before my review, I would like to first reply to another guest's comment about the wedding reception that went into the late hours. We were there the Saturday that the reception took place -- (we arrived on July 3 and left July 12) - We also have children and our room was fairly right above the reception area - if this other guest relaxed enough and remembered his wedding reception he would understand (especially him being Greek........!) -- we were all at that point in our lives and seeing the happy wedding couple and guests enjoy their time and getting a glimpse of the traditions and cultures of the Greeks you and anyone else would understand -- it really was not that bad.....but in fact enjoyable!!!!! thank you for letting us see a real Greek village wedding reception and hear some amazing Greek music -- just love how the Greeks party -- this other guest should have been flexible!******

My turn -- What can I say about this hotel and our family vacation --- how can I truly put into words what a wonderful time we had! After researching for a spa hotel we came across this one -- everything on their website was actually what we saw. Even though we arrived in the middle of the night, they greeted us with drinks and treats and showed us to our rooms. the staff is very friendly and you could see that they cared about you and your vacation. They arranged a small tour for us of the island and things to see, as we requested. the food was delicious (bravo to the cooks) and the kids LOVED the pizza at the pool area -- I enjoyed the a thalasso spa Complete Revival package and facial - the gym helped keep us in shape from all the yummy food- we truly felt at home here and it's on our list for a future visit when we come back to Greece -- so worth visiting and being a part of the culture of Amorgos!!! now if only we could be part of wedding receptions at other locations we travel to so we can learn a little bit more!!!!! a heartfelt THANK YOU TO ALL!!!!!!!!!!!! see you again soon!

Room Tip: ask for a room facing the sea

No doubt that the view is breathtaking, the staff is very friendly and hospitable, youn can enjoy a drink while admiring the sunset but....I guess after you have done all these you want to get some rest. We stayed at the hotel for 3 nights and on the 2nd one the hotel was hosting a local wedding. Result: the wedding guests had a great time, and they were partying with loud music until 04:30!!! We did not manage to sleep until 05:00. All this time I visited the reception twice (first one at 03:00) and persistently asked to talk to hotel management. The owner of the hotel failed to present herself and talked to me over the phone, claiming that she was trying to convince the wedding guests to party less loudly but they were not paying attention to her requests!!!! (my 5years old daughter would have come-up with a better excuse). Hotel management accepter to host a wedding while they new 100% that during this night their guests will remain sleepless.
In my case, it ruined my long weekend, but even if someone was staying for more nigts I consider it very disrespectful towards the gusts to decide that they will not sleep for a night because the hotel wants to make some extra money. And this occasion can be consider accidental, the web site of the hotel proudly promotes the fantastic weddings they organize; for the wedding guests I concur but for the hotel guests it is a nightmare...
I feel sorry that I am a Greek and few Greek hotel owners promote so badly our touristic product. Fully recommend Amorgos but stay away from the hotel or at least explicitly confirm that no wedding is scheduled for the period of your stay.

First of all we apologise and totally understand such kind of reactions. We know that for some of our guests that the location of their room was close to the wedding's reception area was loud and after some time disturbing. We also take the blame that did not give the proper notice for the event.

A young couple from Amorgos, from the near village of Langada who live in Athens had a dream of having their wedding, the most important day of their life at their home land. The wedding party started at 7:30pm and had planned to end around 2 am at the most, as they thought that six and a half hours would be more than enough for the dinner and the party to take place. Unfortunately, for some of our hotel guests, the wedding party continued past the estimated time. Weddings are an important and highly emotional personal event and sometimes can become intensive, especially when it is held in a special atmoshere and on a special place as it was for the couple. The wedding day for the Greeks, as for most of the cultures is perceived as the foundation of the rest of their married life, and is quite difficult and extremely misfortune to ruin for them in any kind of way.

Our mission as a hotel is to provide the best vacation experience possible. We are sorry that this experience came in conflict with some of our guests. We'd be happy and grateful if we'll have in the future the chance to make up to them as their opinion for us is extremely important.
