Salla is one of Lapland's forgotten gems - or at least it is when it comes to the British travel industry.
The ski resort of Sallatunturi offers a handful of blue, red and black runs in a nice compact area. For us, two adult skiers and a teenage snowboarder, it made for a great week - especially as our accommodation was ski in / ski out.
As us adults where testing ourselves on the black run (only one was open whilst we were there) our daughter was happy learning on the quiet, wide blue runs.
Don't go to Salla expecting large runs and comfy chairlifts as you will be disappointed. But if you want somewhere quiet with its own charm and to experience something different to the large European resorts, then you could do a lot worse then give Salla ago.
Just one thing, as the town is 10km you may need a car or trips to the supermarket by taxi may get quite expensive. Not that everyone will need to go in to town. There are a few restaurants and bars in the ski resort and the Hotel Renvontuli has a small shop with the basics available. There is also ski rental, lift pass office and a souvenir shop in the resort.
