This place was brilliant - cannot recommend highly enough.

The guesthouse is a delightful purpose-built wooden building on the same site as a husky farm and the family's accommodation. It's in the middle of the forest, about 5km outside of Ivalo (good shop, not much else).

The rooms are warm and comfortable. Cleanliness exemplary. Nice bathrooms with underfloor heating, and strong shower. Beds comfortable (best sleep in Finland so far). There is also a small kitchen available for guest use, with fridge, oven and hob. The sauna downstairs looked clean and well presented, although we never used it.

The staff are warm and welcoming (both the owner/manager, Outi, and her staff (Lea and Tomi (? spellings) deserve special mention.

The food is all home cooked, including the home-baked bread. Breakfast is the typically tasty Finnish fayre, with meat, cheese, bread, ceareal, yoghurt, fruit jams, home-made juice and the ubiquitous coffee!

Lunch and dinner are all warming and seemingly traditional dishes, including a reindeer soup (which was delicious)!

The husky tour was fantastic. There are various time options, from a 1h trip up to multi-day safaris. The time of year you visit will impact what's available - we came in mid-November, and the fact the rivers/lakes weren't completely frozen yet meant any of the routes longer than 2h were unavailable.

The tour involves you taking control of your team of huskies and sled (1 or 2 to a sled, with one driving and the other being a (slightly nervous!) passenger...) You "mush" up and down hills, through the forests, and on our 2 1/2 hour trip we stopped half-way round at a purpose-built wigwam in the forest where our guide built a fire and made coffee, served with reindeer sandwiches :)

The dogs are friendly, happy and healthy, and clearly well cared for. The ride itself is exhilarating, and a once-in-a-lifetime experience not to be missed.

We were lucky enough to see the Northern Lights (thanks Outi for coming to get us from our rooms!), and the spot is perfect, well away from any light pollution. The owners kindly turned off the outside lights for us too. Some great photos obtained!

All in all, this relatively young business is doing all the right things, and deserves to go from strength to strength. If you're looking for a wilderness escape, with great homely food, some time with the huskies and a great viewing opportunity for the Northern Lights, then look no further. Book immediately!

A pleasant guesthouse in a husky farm. Everything was so nice there: The room, sauna, breakfast, even the northern lights were the best... Outi, the owner, took good care of us. Warmly recommended.

My wife and I stayed here March 2012. The room was simple, clean, warm, comfortable and well maintained. There was a decent en-suite bathroom. Not much in the way of mod-cons, just a small wall mounted TV. See my pics to get an idea.

We had dinner there in the evening. The presentation wasn’t amazing, but that didn’t matter; the food was very tasty and filling. We had an excellent soup, followed by salmon, followed by tarte.

We did husky sledging whilst we were there. Some people opted to share a sledge; we had one each. They provided warm boots, mitts and overalls, but you need basic warm stuff. It was a lot of fun! We did a four hour trek, with lunch cooked for us half way round.

Overall we had a great time here, with no complaints. The staff are friendly and helpful. Highly recommended.

We stayed here at the end of our 4 night trip principally for some husky sledding. We did the full day trip, covering 66kms over forest, lakes and rivers - awesome.

Very homely set up run by husband and wife team in a purpose built house with rooms for guests (free wifi) and a mini kitchen for guests own use with tea and coffee and a fridge - lovely.

Rooms were comfortable, basic but new and warm. You got breakfast and dinner daily and it was lovely home cooked food.

If you stay you need to have organised your activities before you arrive to ensure you maximise your time here - cross country skiing, ski mobile, husky sledding etc

Really enjoyable - Ivalo is a non-town the supermarket is good but the restaurant opposite on the river is very average. Fun seeing a ski mobile pull up next to you while filling up with fuel at the petrol station!

One of the best holidays to date! A great kept secret (but not for much longer with these great reviews), in the middle of the forest. We came to experience the Northern Lights and weren't disappointed! We only had to go outside to the back of the house to see fantastic displays. Being outside of town meant very little light pollution so the visibility was amazing. During the day, we explored the forest on cross country skins, went for husky safaris with Juha-Pikka, went snow mobilling at nearby Sarri Silke and went for walks with Ilona the family dog (she knew where she was taking us!!). We were very well looked after by Outti and Lea, who are both very hospitable and great cooks! A great place to just enjoy nature, dogs and if you're lucky, beautiful Northern Lights. I will certainly be back. Keep the fire burning, Outti!!

Room Tip: All rooms are very nice!

The Husky guesthouse is about 5 km remote from the village. Therefore there is no disturbing light in the evening to prevent you from spotting the Northern lights. The guesthouse is also a huskyfarm, so if you like to be among the dogs, just walk outside!

For the rest the guesthouse is also ok, it even has a little self catering kitchen. Didn't use this kitchen however since the meals they provide are good.

Their Huskytours are great fun!
