“Great value for money and a proper Finnish sauna”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 10, 2014

We stayed here with a group of cycling friends as a stop off on our long trip. Sauna was a great relief and the breakfast had a vast array of choices. Shame there wasn't any food in the restaurant but it was low season and other places nearby served food.

Friendly and relaxed atmosphere throughout

Room Tip: Wi Fi not available in the room but available free in the reception / bar area. We arrived in low se...

Hei HippyJR!

Kiitos, thank you for your stay and such a nice review. :)

Unfortunately our summer guests arrive on such different times and maybe have been eating already on their way and we prefer serving Majatalo's food only from buffet. That is why we do not serve dinner so often during summer season.
We have three nice different kinds of places, all of them in 400 meters from the hotel, who serve good meals and we have some small snack here at the reception. :)

Maybe you come back next year and I guess then we will serve dinner for your group! :)
Welcome again! Tervetuloa taas! :)

This truly is a very welcoming hotel - Tina and her staff took great care, her mum cooked delicious, traditional food each evening. The hotel is situated in a quiet area of the small town, but the shops are very close by and can be reached easily by foot. The rooms are simple, but cosy, spacious and very well-maintained. And the hotel also has a sauna!

We stayed here just for one night on our way further north. We had our two dogs with us and stayed in the older house in the yard. The room was very basic, with and old bunk bed and two single beds. WC in the hallway. My only concern was being on the second floor in a large wooden building, and electricity went out late at night and it was pitch black in the whole house and no signs showing you where the closest emergency exit was or fire hose, and no smoke detectors in the room.
Other than that, we think that breakfast was terrific - hearty Finnish food, and the main building was looked very warm and welcoming - and I think the place was fully booked when we were there and everyone seemed to have a very good time.

Dear Birgit, thank you for your review.

Oh, you have been here in Hetta during an electricity breakdown. That happens sometimes here in the village for example because of the wind, snow, cold.. In Finland we have very strict safety rules and we are acting according to these rules or even better here in Majatalo.

There are smoke detectors in all of the rooms and on the corridor in the guesthouse. There is also a fire extinguisher on the corridor. There are also green exit lights on the corridor which work all the time and also during electricity breakdowns. But the signs are unfortunately only in Finnish 'Varauloskäynti' and not 'Exit' which would be better nowadays when we have more foreign guests.
We check and test all of these safety things every month.

Like you thought the hotel was fully-booked when you were here. It is one of the best times of the year. :)

Thank you for your visit and welcome back if you are travelling somewhere around!

We spent 4 fabulous days in this most magical part of the world. The hotel was everything we could have wished for, from the cosy rooms to the well cooked delicious food.
Thank you so much to Tina and her team for looking after us all so well, we didn't want to come home.
Best regards, The Henderson's x

We stayed at the hotel on a Transun Santa holiday. Although there were only 3 of us we paid an under occupancy supplement to have a 4-5 person room. The room was easily big enough for 4-5 with plenty of storage and our 4 year old enjoyed having the mezzanine to himself.
I was worried about how warm the bedding would be as there didn't seem to be much but is was very cosy and we slept well.
The bathroom is small but is clean and has plenty of hot water.
The room temperature was easy to alter too so you could keep warm without sweltering.
The main reception is well fitted out and a variety of snacks and drinks can be bought there.
We enjoyed our stay and would go back.

Tip-the hotel's gift shop was the best one that we visited so shop there as there isn't much choice anywhere else and it's much cheaper than the airport.

We were just passing by and looked for a place where we could have a sauna bath This was the only place in the village that wanted to offer us this service. We did not spend the night in the hotel but we had a nice sauna bath. The staff was very friendly and the place seemed nice.

We did the Auld Lang Syne trip in Dec 30th 2012 with Transun and stayed at the Hetan Majatalo. We were luck with the weather as most of the time it was -4°C, with lowest at -10°C. The thermal suits were great and kept us warm for all the events. The hotel was lovely, we had 5 in one room - on two levels (3 kids + Mum and Dad) and it was fine - little bit tight, but that was part of the fun. The food at the hotel was exceptionally good - something for kids of all ages and a good variety and that was for all sittings, beakfast, lunch and dinner. The Transun staff were helpful and friendly as were the locals, they just stopped and chatted. The excusions from Transun were great, and I would recommend the Huskey Northern Lights ride - although we didn't see the lights up close we did spot them in the far distance. The visit to the local church was great, although some people were nervous, the service was lovely with carol singing and the history of the town was great to discover - everyone enjoyed it - well done Transun.
