The good news here is that the location is stellar - very central for both walking and transportation. Also, the breakfast buffet offers a huge array of non-daily milks and gluten-free baked goods. The workout facilities are very good. Pool is VERY small and kept at 30Celcius year round, which is a nice feature but real swimming is not an option.
Aside from these aforementioned pluses, the minuses are many. First - the front desk. Although a couple of the staff were quite friendly (including a trainee on his 4th day), one man was not only unpleasant but surly. When asked if he would call a nearby spa to inquire about a massage, he told me that he was not a concierge, the hotel did not have a concierge, and I should check with the Clarion hotel spa. As a matter of fact, the hotel spa had no availability. In my opinion, this sort of behavior is unacceptible.
As for the room. I got a “luxury” room in the “new” building. While the room was spacious, and had a view of the city, it was poorly lit, the phone did not work, the bathroom vent was covered in dust, and the furnishings appeared worn and banged up. Nevertheless, the mattress was fine (not the “marshmallow bed” mentioned by other reviewers), and blackout curtains were effective. More
