“Very good for the price, good location great wifi and nice breakfast....”
Reviewed September 13, 2011

We spent a couple of nighs here in Sept 2011, having looked for a cheap hotel for a longweekend.

Firstly the location - a 10 min walk to the middle of the City it's ideal - very handy for the football ground and also v close to a bus station.

The young lady in reception was bubbly and friendly - happy to help out with various tourist questions too. Reception had a computer with free internet and free coffee / biscuits. A secure cupboard for left luggage a big plus.

No escaping the room is very basic - no wardrobe or drawers or ironing board or kettle or coffee or anything like that. But it was clen and the bed very soft and comfy. We had corner room which had big windows on 2 sides which semed odd ! The wifi was excellent - great to get free wifi as was the wall mounted lcd tv.

Breakfast was nice - hot bacon / meetballs and scrambled egg and all the usual cerials / bead / cheeses and cold meats.

Downsides ? Well on both nights there were periods of music coming from somewhere (Across a road ?), Also at breakfast there were more tables than dinners on Sunday morning - we waited 15 mins and went back - possinly just bad timing (Although some seasoned guests appeared to be getting their food on a tray and heading back to their rooms). As mentioned the rooms are basic (But comfortable and clean)

All these are small criticisms - concidering the costs of accomodation in Gothenberg the Allen is something of a godsend and for what we paid we were very happy.

It is about a ten minute walk to the central Station, The hotel was nice, clean, free PC access in Lobby, free coffee 24/7, very friendly staff, room was average size, modern and clean. I only stayed here one night but came away feeling I got a good value. Being close enough to the train station, but still enjoy a quiet nights sleep. There are plenty of diners and nice pubs to walk to as well as mid to upscale shopping and the harbor with the giant ferris wheel is also only a short walk. It was friendly, clean and a great location.

The greatest feauture of this hotel is its proximity to the central part of town and it's modest pricing. They often have oline deals like three nights for the price of two and such. Staff is nice but not extremely service-minded. If you ask for stuff like newspapers, an iron, they will help you but won't walk the extra mile. The rooms are ok but nothing fancy. WARNING: if you take a bath, the water will flow over on the bathroom floor as you empty the tub afterwards. The hotel doesn't seem to want to do anything about this for some reason. The room has big windows - during the cold period of the year you might experience a draft. Breakfast is free and OK (there will be meatballs). To sum up, you get what you pay for. Service and quality is nothing to write home about, but the location at 10 minutes walk from the central station and five minutes to nearest tram stop and Kungsportsavenyen is great. Oh, and they got free Wi-Fi.

Would you like to pay 200 euros for a dingy and very small room in a 70's block of flats reminding you of a highrise in the problem projects? no? neither did I. this is hardly a hotel. No newspapers for breakfast, no lift, a corridor with a peeling asbestos ceiling and the most terrfically noisy and heavy traffic outside your window (which doesn't really open). The bed was OK but they had no sheets to fit so they put two sheets overlapping each other instead. the room had no closet and of course no iron, coffeemaker or anything like that. Which is totally OK if you're paying for a backpacker hostel or B & B. But the price was an exorbitant sum surpassing what they would charge at a 5-star resort. Why? Beacuse the entire town of Gothenburg gets fully booked whenever there's a large conference or summit, which there always seems to be. Fraudulent and exorbitant!

We stayed 2 nights at this hotel which is a similar standard to Hotel Ibis. It's location is good and rooms are basic but spotlessly clean. A good basic breakfast buffet is included. The hotel represents good value for money. Only disadvantage was the TV in the room did not show any English speaking channel not even BBC World or CNN.
Would recommend if you don't want to pay 4* prices.

What a perfect location! We could see and do whatever we wanted in Gothenburg! We were there during the weekend of "Båtmässan" and really appreciated how the staff took care of us and had patience enough to answer all our questions! The design and the comfort of our room fullfilled our expectations by far, it was clean and everything felt new and we love that swedish design!

We can really recommend this central hotel to everyone who wants to experience the city of Gothenburg!
