Owner description: Welcome to one of the largest botanical gardens in Northern Europe. The cultivated part occupies 40 acres and holds about 12 000 species. It is a botanical garden with a strong emphasis on horticulture and the garden is divided into different sections linked by lawns with fine trees and shrubs. You will find a kitchen garden, a herb garden, perennial and annual borders, a Japanese glade, a rhododendron valley and a stunning rock garden with a waterfall. In the bulb garden you find species that are not grown anywhere else. The Greenhouses have more than 4 000 species including a large collection of orchids and carnivorous plants. The Eastern Island tree, extinct in its natural locality, is preserved here. The garden is bordering a nature reserve where also the arboretum is located.

I went there Solo, and for a nature walk. Perfect to get some fresh air and relax ! Remember where to get off the tram, else you may end up walking a lot more than required to reach this place

“Lots of green with good atmosphire”
Reviewed August 16, 2013

You can walk up a bit hilly garden, and easily reach at the other side end of the garden. You can go out and continue on walking. Each corner/intersection has a sign to guide you where the road lead you to, so feels you came a bit far from the Garden's entrance, but no worries.

“Fantastic place to visit.”
Reviewed August 15, 2013

A really nice place to visit on your visit to Gothenburg. We have visited throughout the year and the gardens really start to come alive once Spring arrives. In my opinion is at its best late spring when the impressive collection of Rhododendrons are in full bloom. Some fantastic flower displays which are changed throughout the year. Don't forget to try out the restaurant, the grilled salmon is delicious or just relax in the beautiful surroundings with a coffee. For the more adventurous, you can head out into Änggårdsbergen, which is a large forest and arboretum. It can be a little daunting heading through the metal gate into the forest but it's well signposted for 'Botanisk trädgård', so you can always find your way back. I have nothing bad to say although, to be more tourist friendly, it would be nice to have the arboretum tree information signs in English as well as Swedish.
