Owner description: Welcome to one of the largest botanical gardens in Northern Europe. The cultivated part occupies 40 acres and holds about 12 000 species. It is a botanical garden with a strong emphasis on horticulture and the garden is divided into different sections linked by lawns with fine trees and shrubs. You will find a kitchen garden, a herb garden, perennial and annual borders, a Japanese glade, a rhododendron valley and a stunning rock garden with a waterfall. In the bulb garden you find species that are not grown anywhere else. The Greenhouses have more than 4 000 species including a large collection of orchids and carnivorous plants. The Eastern Island tree, extinct in its natural locality, is preserved here. The garden is bordering a nature reserve where also the arboretum is located.

“Oasis of tranquility”
Reviewed July 28, 2013

We only went in because the guide on the Canal tour recommended it. Right next to the canal, you can walk through the tree lined paths, relax on the lawned areas, or visit the Tropical glasshouses. At the end of the gardens nearest to the Tram and train stations is a delightful Rosé Garden with an abundance of floral displays and water features. To the side of the garden is an outdoor café serving a wide variety of meals and snacks.

Definitely not to be missed if you have an hour to spare.

“Beautiful, unusual old garden”
Reviewed July 21, 2013

My husband, daughter, and I took a guided tour of this old garden in English led by a local who really knew the garden and clearly loved it. In the middle of a city that loves parks, this one is a special gem and worth the trip. Do take a guided tour if possible to fully enjoy the history of the garden and the gardens within the garden.

“Please pay the 20 swedish kroner!”
Reviewed July 17, 2013

get a tram to this place as it is a very long walk from the centre of town! It's a university run place with an emphasis on academic study. The indoor plant displays are really interesting. It's also a great place to walk round and - if you climb up to the "outpost" has some good views over Gothenburg. The 20 kroner entrance fee is left to you to go into the shop and pay, sadly we noticed many people did not bother. It's such a small contribution?

“Large area”
Reviewed July 16, 2013

There is a huge selection of plants and flowers and I especially enjoyed the tropical greenhouse. The cafés are kinda small though (at least the ones we sat down at)
