Owner description: Welcome to one of the largest botanical gardens in Northern Europe. The cultivated part occupies 40 acres and holds about 12 000 species. It is a botanical garden with a strong emphasis on horticulture and the garden is divided into different sections linked by lawns with fine trees and shrubs. You will find a kitchen garden, a herb garden, perennial and annual borders, a Japanese glade, a rhododendron valley and a stunning rock garden with a waterfall. In the bulb garden you find species that are not grown anywhere else. The Greenhouses have more than 4 000 species including a large collection of orchids and carnivorous plants. The Eastern Island tree, extinct in its natural locality, is preserved here. The garden is bordering a nature reserve where also the arboretum is located.

Botaniska Tradgarden, with over 450 acres and expansive greenhouses, is a spectacular botanical garden. Every acre and greenhouse is meticulously cared for. The Rhododendrons were most colorful and tall. The Nepenthes plants were the best specimens I have ever seen (and I used to import them). The admission fee is very modest, and the nature paths are extensive. Try to plan a day's visit here. It is no wonder that many consider this botanical garden to be the best in Europe. It is among the very best I have ever seen anywhere!

We arrived at the Botanical Garden just after it opened on a damp, cloudy day after a rain. There was plenty of parking on the street in front of the entrance for a few SEK. The 20 SEK entrance fee was optional. Plenty of nice, clean, free bathrooms. The gardens go on forever with different areas concentrating on their own type of vegetation (conifers, rhododendrons, Japanese, etc.). When we arrived the benches of which there were a great many, were too damp to sit on but as the day progressed, warmed up and dried itself it became a very pleasant pastime to sit on the benches and watch people go by jogging, walking, herding children or pushing perambulators. The birding was great. The sculpture was interesting. It was very easy to get lost on trails away from anyone and perhaps lose oneself in contemplating the mushrooms growing from an old, scarred tree. Food at the restaurant was simple but adequate but the seating outside in the garden was lovely. I can only imagine how pleasant a visit would be on a sunny Spring day.

such a variation of different styles of gardens, not only plants. Try to go as far as the Japanese garden. Worth it!

A 5 minute walk from the metro. Such a beautiful place. You could roam the gardens for hours. Nice waterfall and plants. The green house is worth the 20SEK too. We stopped at the cafe and had a drink and cake. Definitely worth a visit.

I was amazed by plenty of rhododendronses here, big and small, in various colors - pink, white, orange and etc. In my opinion it is worth to visit this garden if you are in Gothenburg. There were many nice places to take a sit and to rest.
