Although I was staying in the hotel over only 1night, I have to say that I had very good experience in royal hotel. First of all, the hotel has the most convenient location, only a short walk away from central station. Also it is 1 min away from shopping street and walking distance (7min)from liseberg amusement park. It was quite pleasant to have a "fika" in lobby anytime with good quality coffee and yummy cake. Staff was exceptionally friendly and helpful and even spoke my native language with me, not to mention perfect English. Room was really nice and clean. Breakfast had a good variety of foods! Very good, ext time I am in gothenburg I ll Defiantly come back to stay in royal hotel.

We went to this hotel since it was a good location as we found out. The price was not low but I think average for this location. The room was nice, quite large, clean and functional. Wifi, breakfast and some the/coffee was available free of charge. The staff was very helpful and obliging. The parking opposite was also very convenient (special price from the hotel for 24 hours). We can definitely recommend this hotel.

My wife and I stayed 2 nights at this hotel while on vacation. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The room as comfortable and clean. Bathroom was clean and well appointed. We stayed on the second floor with our room overlooking the courtyard. This can be a bit loud if there are many guests in the courtyard and they are talking loudly. It wasn't an issue for us because it quietened down before we went to bed and you couldn't hear much outside with the windows closed.

There is fresh coffee and tea available in the lobby along with cookies and cake. This was a very nice touch. Breakfast was included and we really enjoyed the breakfast. It was nicely laid out, with a good variety of tasty offerings. The scrambled eggs were very smooth and crepes very good.

The staff were very friendly and helpful. The hotel is very well located: very close to the main train station and close to shops and restaurants. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay.

My bed broke at the hostel I was in. I looked for a place at 1:30 am and went to Hotel Royal. Was I impressed. The hotel is in a great location for dinning and shopping. The staff were great and the price was easily worth the value. The breakfast alone makes this a perfect stay for a family or couple. Before you go anywhere else, check out the Hotel Royal.

We stayed here one night during Gothia Cup. The personnel was very friendly and helpful and it was a great breakfast buffe.

Location is good, close to the train station and some good shopping.

We stayed at the top floor and as it was warm outside it got really hot inside the room. We had the window open and there was a lot of noise from the street so unfortunately we did not sleep that well.

5 minutes walk to the central station, right next to the big park (Trädgårdsföreningen).

Very friendly service, clean rooms, great breakfast... we enjoyed our stay at Hotel Royal. They serve complimentary home-backed cake everyday - you can also enjoy the complimentary tea or coffee with it in their garden.

We loved staying here and highly recommend this place!

Room Tip: 2nd floor rooms were good with high ceiling

We went to Gothenburg for the European CF Meetings. There were seven of us. We stayed 5 nights. The contact with the hotel began months before as we made reservations, changed them, changed them again, changed the names that went with each room and just before arrival extended one room. Andreas and Tina answered emails promptly and always with the right information. Sometimes, it was what we needed but didn't know to ask for.

The trip from Landvetter Airport was easy. Take Flybussarna. There are ticket machines in the terminal and at the curb, but the driver waved us on board quickly sold us our tickets using a credit card without fuss: about $10 US one way. Get off the bus at Kungsportsplatsen. Facing the direction of the bus, turn right and walk down the square and then angle left with the road until you reach the Hotel Royal. It's across the street from the Radisson Blu. If you keep going past the hotel down the road angling further left another two blocks, you'll be at the Central Station for trams and buses. (The taxi ride from Landvetter is quicker but costs about 6 times as much: a fixed price but ask if not offered as metered fares are also allowed and usually more.)

The hotel requires a climb of three steps to the door, there's a button on the right to open it, then a few more steps to the front desk. I never saw handicap access, but I have feeling they would figure out a way to accommodate everyone considering how good the service was. Check in was immediate with no trouble with finding reservations. All six of our group in 4 different rooms reported no troubles checking in arriving from 9AM to 11PM, and the clerks had no trouble sorting out who was staying where and who was paying. The clerks were always happy to help and always made sure that we knew about the tea and coffee service in the lobby. The lobby service had “afternoon” cake that was available from about 2 in the afternoon until about 6 in the morning just before breakfast started. That cake was usually so good that we skipped desserts at restaurants just to get more. One day, they had iced coffee out that was terrific. The lobby computer was easy to use to print boarding passes. Wall mounted ipads allowed some electronic exploring of the town. Two lobby areas inside and a patio area outside allowed us to gather as a group for tea and cake in the afternoons or after dinner. An old elevator fits 2-3 people with bags snugly; there is also a beautiful staircase that is faster going up and down from the lobby.

Our group all had superior double or single rooms. Every room was different. My wife and I stayed in 356 which is 8 sided and enormous. There was a parquet wooden floor, high ceiling and chandelier. There were windows on three sides that opened to let in the air. We had great natural light all day. Shades shut out light when needed. Street noises below were noticeable with the windows open but closing the windows shut out all the noise. Although there is a canal only a block away, we did not notice any mosquitoes or other insects at night. We kept the windows open because the room became warm during the days which were the warmest of the year. We had a king bed that was comfortable. Bedding and towels were all excellent quality or better. There were bathrobes in the dark wooden wardrobe along with ironing board, iron (which worked well) and hair dryer. There were plenty of wooden hangers. There was a desk and chair by the window, a loveseat, soft chair and coffee table. Each side of the bed had a light and small shelf. The bathroom was a step up from the main room floor and had heated floors and a heated towel rack. The bathroom was all white tile and had a high ceiling with a large window with frosted glass. There was a large glass shower with regular and rain shower heads. There was free wireless internet throughout the hotel. There was no safe in the room. For an old building, power outlets were easy to find. All power outlets were European two prong standard. Cleaning of our room was meticulous. Nothing seemed to be missed by house keeping. Water from the tap was pleasant to taste. Ice was next to the coffee and tea in the lobby.

Breakfast was in a large naturally well-lighted area on two levels opposite the front desk. There were a variety of cereals, milk, yogurt, fresh fruit and juices, coffees and teas. There were a number of very good hot items including eggs, scrambled and soft-boiled, two types of sausages, crepes with warm toppings as well as cold meats, fishes and cheeses. There was a station for bread that included rolls of many kinds as well as fresh loaves carefully wrapped with linen napkins for slicing so that only you touched your piece of bread. There was butter and preserves to go with the bread. Everything was constantly refreshed. Some of the items varied on different days. There seemed to be something new every one of the 5 days that we were there. I would be surprised if anyone failed to find something good to eat at this breakfast.

Check out was as painless as check in. Because our flight was at 6:10AM, we took a taxi back to Landvetter. The Flybussarna starts at 4:25AM. The clerk called for a taxi the night before. The morning clerk called again to confirm that the taxi was coming. That clerk was just as cheery and bright as during the day and reminded us of the cake and coffee as we checked out.

The hotel is an easy walk from the central, extensive shopping area. Trams go in all directions from the Central Station and Kungsportsplatsen. The walk to the conference center, Svenskamassan, was about 20 minutes, but three or four tram lines go there, so there were plenty of easy ways to get back and forth. The #11 tram from the Central Station takes about 30 minutes to get to the ferry station to go out to the archipelago using the same ticket. It was warm enough to think about going swimming out there, and the staff loaned us towels to take along. There are numerous restaurants in the area, and the staff are very helpful with recommendations that seemed consistently accurate. If we come this way again (and there are plenty of reasons to), we will definitely stay here.

Room Tip: Some rooms are quieter. No one in our party (7 people) minded being on the street though.
