We checked in for two nights midweek and were given a room on a higher floor.
When we arrived in the room we saw the view from the massive floor to ceiling windows across the whole side of the (large) room, it was impressive. But then we noticed the beds and bathroom, we were in a handicapped room. I was confused as two young able bodied people, why we were given a handicapped room (and indeed why the hotel locates its handicapped rooms on a high floor?).
Also it had two single beds pushed together so we asked at reception about this, and the whole handicapped room thing, and was told it was in fact an upgrade and Swedish hotels hardly ever have proper double beds ??
Anyway it was only a two day stay so we accepted it and got on with our visit. The hotel is large but well situated just on the outskirts of the city centre attractions, bars and restaurants. We had drinks in the hotel which was fine the bar was pleasant to relax in. The breakfast was full of plenty of choice and enjoyable- however we did not enjoy the iPad orange juice. It was watery and flavourless.
The room didn't have a fridge/mini-bar in it, nor was there an ice machine in the hotel (you could request some ice at the bar). But the WiFi was fine. The bathroom in our room was very large and clean, but it felt strange showering in a shower with a handicapped persons seat in.
I wouldn't mind staying again but would hope we get a normal room with a double/king size bed.
Hi Ian! Thank you for your review of your recent stay with us. I'm very sorry for how you experienced your room, our accessible rooms are located on different floors, some have the floor to ceiling windows and our located on the higher floors and some our located on the lower floors. We do have king sizes beds so there seems to be a misunderstanding about this, I'm very sorry for the inconvenience. Great to read that you enjoyed our breakfast and our location. I wish you a great week and I hope we will get the privilege of welcoming you back next time you are visiting Gothenburg. Kindest Regards, Jessica Scandic Opalen
