We booked our soccer team and supporters into the Opalen from July 16th to the 23rd during the Gothia cup torunmanet and had a very enjoyable stay.

Overall the hotel is very well run with friendly and helpful staff. Starting with the initial registration of aproximately 20 rooms through to booking taxis and getting early monring meals before going to the airport, the staff was very patient and understanding.

We enjoyed the daily breakfast at the hotel. A wide selection of cold and hot choices was well recieved by all even though the same menu was served each day. In a city where the cost of eating out is very high it helped to start the day with a complimentary meal.

The hotel is very well situtated in the city with close proximity to the tram station and walking distacne to the downtown area and major attractions.Free internet, great room service and overall good tidness of the hotel also made this a great place for an extended stay.

Room Tip: The rooms on floors 9 and above are newer as it appears the hotel was added on to in the near past.

I stay at this hotel during for a conference at the conference center. It was very close (5 minute walk) to the conference center, and a 5 minute walk to the popular shopping district. Also, the service was great, and our room was always very clean, although not very big, Our favorite part was the huge complimentary breakfast buffet, with a nice gluten-free section as well!!

This is a large hotel located in one of the newer parts of the city near to the stadium and sporting facilities. The location is fairly central and it is a short walk to most places. The airport bus stops nearby which is good. Additional positive features were that the staff were friendly and the breakfast was very good. The bar area was good for a relaxing drink, although of course there are probably plenty of good places in Gothenburg to do that. The gym was small but had good equipment and was a nice space. The big negative was the very small room. I was glad that I was on my own because two people would be tripping over each other in such a small space. In summary it was just a very basic room and not at all worth the expensive price. Another issue is that being near to the sports facilities the hotel is popular with large groups of sports teams. Such groups can be loud and disruptive. During my stay the hotel was full of many such groups. In keeping with the 'basic' theme there was a temperature control in the room which I presume can make the room hot but it did not seem to make it cold. I would not want to be there on a hot day. At least the window in my room opened. There was free wifi but I had trouble getting it to work on some days of my 5 day stay.

I spent 7 nights at Scandic Opalen Hotel and I didn't like it at all.The room was very small, too small for two people, only one closet, no mini bar and safe, bathroom for one person and very cold in the room. Not very clean and too expensive. More 2 stars than 4 stars.

The hotel is situated near “Mässan” (The Göteborg’s Exposition Hall) and Ullevi, where you can watch football and other sport events. If you have luggage and don’t have a car, you have to take tram or taxi to reach the hotel.

The hotel belongs to the Scandic chain and all hotels in this chain offer more or less the same for the money. By my point of view, I think hotel Opalen it’s a little bit overpriced regarding to what you get. The rooms are absolutely “OK” but not more than that. So there are better hotels in Göteborg than this hotel. So I would like to rate it 3½ but it's not possible here. As it is more a four star than three star I rate it "4"
