“A very comfortable stay”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 7, 2014

Only stayed for a night during a tour of Scandanavia but wished we could have stayed in comfort for a little while longer. This hotel is a little way from the city centre but is easily accessible by tram. If you are happy to stay a little out of town then you could save yourself a few krona here whilst retaining a high standard of hotel.

Helpful staff, lovely room, good breakfast, not too expensive. No complaints at all.

Room Tip: A view of the water may add a little to your stay

We stay a weekend in august 2013.
Easy to find, really nice location by the water .
nice big room, great breakfast.
The area around the hotel was nice.
Easy to take the trollycar ,close to the hotel to get downtown.
We would stay here again.

Hi There... we are a young couple with a girl 2 years old and stayed there 3 days in a Superior room 25m2 .
The Hotel is Big It has a spacious modern lobby, looks like renovated and very charm. Staff is friendly and informative.
The room was very good sized, light we a had view of the water & boats, beds were super comfortable, very clean, with a minibar, flatTV, security box and a big bathroom with a tub, many towels and beauty products to use free.
WiFi is available throughout the hotel, free but did not works inside of our room.

Breakfast was buffet with a very good quality and variety of products and the restaurant had 2 solarium eating rooms with really nice views of the harbour which is splendid.

Parking outside is free and safe and great because we watched the car by the room's window.

The city centre is four kilometres away, by car takes 10 min to Liseberg for example.
The hotel is a bit out of the way, but there is good transit close by though. the journey into town by tram or ferry are short and easyer to reach if you buy GO city card.
Take the Älvsnabben ferry from Lilla Bommen (near the opera house) or Rosenlund (near Järntorget), for example. The journey takes 20–25 minutes, and the boat runs once or twice each hour. From there it is about a five-minute walk to the hotel.
There's no reason to be closer. Hotel is great at all.

The city itself had a lot to offer, we started on 23/12 in Liseberg. It Is a wonderful park which was decorated fully of Xmas lights and music which truly makes this a nice family experience. A lot of activities to do, animals to see, Santa's house, food to eat and a long street where is Xmas market. We spent 5 hours inside the park.

Driving? : the Liseberg's parking costs 20 Swe kronor 1 hour. If you get a place behind Universeum, there the parking costs 10 Swe kronor 1 hour, but use to be full.

Universeum is Great as well, for us was a fun way to spend a couple hours on a rainy 25/12 afternoon. The aquarium and the undersea exhibit were excellent and the rainforest were pretty cool for my daughter. There is a ton of stuff to look in other areas like playrooms so don´t miss it! Reserve at least 3 hours for this attraction.

Göteborg's center is very nice between Xmas and New Year. The city is full of Lights and a great videoshow in Götaplatsen The square at the end of the main boulevard Kungsportsavenyn.
The city has an exciting mix of historic buildings and contemporary design to visit,The new and the old city hall, Kuggen at Lindholmen, The opera house in the harbour, Clarion hotel in the Drottningtorget (Queen Square), Slottsskogen city park etc.

Gothenburg must be one of the most beautiful cities I have ever seen in Xmas season! Don´t miss it.

Room Tip: Superior room is really good.

This property is a renovated heritage building located a bit away - good transit close by though - from the city centre. The room was good sized, light - we a had view of the water & boats, comfortable, and bathroom had a tub.

The windows could be opened and one could hear the jostling of boats in their moorings but it didn't keep us from sleeping. I think rooms facing the water best as other side faced embankment & highway close by.

Breakfast was included in our rate and it was quite good - good selection, good quality. The 2 solarium eating rooms were really nice. Inside there were also long tables for groups.

A couple of concerns: It seemed as if anyone could walk into this hotel - very lax security. I know it's Sweden but still... And the spa/fitness area attendant wasn't wearing any uniform/name tag so at first not sure who one was talking to. The hot tub hours were too short as well.

We stayed here in October half term as a family trip, tempted by the gothenberg museums and city pass package, as well as cheap Ryanair flights. The novotel experience with kids is reassuringly familiar, though this hotel didn't provide a welcome gift, which the kids always like and might be worth thinking about given it was half term in Sweden too and there were plenty of kids there, it does have a businessy feel even so. The rooms are fine, the superior room a bit smaller than in some others, but the views of the harbour are splendid. Front of house staff friendly and informative if not hugely warm. The breakfast huge of course, but the one disappointment was the quality of evening food, compared to novotel a in France it was a bit frozen seeming and bland. We would have eaten elsewhere if there was somewhere nearby.. Though the batman was great and the drinks much better than food, Yes the hotel is out of the way, but the journey into town by tram or ferry part do the fun, and v short, we walked back in around 30 mins, which is manageable too, so there's no reason to be closer. The city itself had a lot to offer, the rain pretty awful as predicted, but when sunny you really appreciate it! For families visiting, universes is as good as it looks, the kids were v excited, it is better than similar places in london. Archie Atkins centre also v good for half a day. And don't miss slottparken the main park, where you will be able to play in the leaves with the swedish kids at their outdoor kindergartens, and also it has the best penguin enclosure we have seen, you really are up close, far better than london zoo. For eating, wld recommend the city museum cafe ( plainly full of swedish nct groups) and the cafe in the botanical gardens.

The Novotel Goteborg is a good choice for both business and leisure travelers visiting Goteborg. With its views out across the harbour and one of Goteborg's best restaurants right next door it a great place to base yourself. There is a ferry nearby that takes you into the city centre -- at a leisurely pace. Alternately trams and taxis get you there in just a few minutes. The rooms are somewhat standard but perfectly comfortable and the restaurant and bar are well-run.

I have been Staying in the Apartments which are managed by the hotel, so do not know what the rooms are like, but if you have a longer stay it is a good option with 2 floors in each apartment. There is a main floor with a living room, kitchenette and bathroom and then a second floor with the bedroom, desk and another TV. The Apartments have all of the basics and make it good for going out to get groceries and not having to rely on the hotel for everything. That being said, I have gone for breakfast at the Hotel every morning and enjoyed some quality meals there for dinner as well. The restaurant does not have a wide variety on their menu, but having tried much of what is there, it is all very tasty. The staff at the hotel are super nice and accommodating. My only negative is that it a bit far from the action and to get to the city center requires a cab or the use of a tram system which is about a 5 minute walk. My work is very near which makes the location much better during the week. I would definitely stay here again
