Very pleasent setting although quite a distance from Gothemberg, fairly basic rooms but very clean and tidy for a Hotel that has a hundred year history. Very helpful staff and freindly the food is supurb and I could not fault it's quality.Yoiu could not ask for the wrong thing. As everything in Sweden very expensive.

Room Tip: Location is a little out of reach for anything there is just the hotel but it is next to a river wit...

Thank you for comments. It was very nice to hear that you enjoyed our food in the restaurant and we often get positive feedback about our food. It is true that Kungalv is located a bite outside of Gothenburg, 17km, but many guests use the Expressbus that stop just outside of the hotel and it only takes 15 minutes to get into central Gothenburg. We offer free parking so it is very convinent to take the bus to Gothenburg.
Welcome back!

this hotel oozes old-time charm and would probably be better visited during the summer, as it has a pretty location next to the river, and there is an outdoor pool, obviously not open in December, though.
The room had a decent size, with two comfortable armchairs and a table, as well as the standard desk and nightstand tables, very comfortable beds. The bathroom was really not at all okay, several of the floor tiles were missing, the tiny (but pretty) mirror was placed so high up that I with my 5'7" /172 cm could barely see my face, whereas my 6'7" /198cm husband was happy for once! The "shower section" of the room consisted of a plastic curtain draping around an area so tiny that when showering I had the not pleasant experience of a cold wet plastic shower curtain clinging to my back...yuck! And how come practically no hotel bathrooms has a hook or two for hanging up toilettries-bags /sponge bags?? And this did not even have an electric outlet,so I had to use a hairdryer etc in the main room , as the wallmounted hairdryer in the bathroom was broken.
The rest of the hotel was nice and cosy, plenty of sitting groups around, an open free coffee/tea bar, several "chambre separees" that on this weekend were used for various companies' Christmas parties.
The breakfast was actually very very good. only minus was for raw and soggy bacon....otherwise a very good selection and trays were constantly being topped-up.
This hotel lies in an utterly charming part of Kungalv, with narrow cobble-stone streets surrounded by wooden houses built in the mid 1800's.,..and it's a 15-20 minutes' car drive into Gothenburg. There are buses going directly in but the tickets were so expensive it was cheaper to use our car and pay for city parking.
We will definitely go back during the summer months to check out what it's like then...and to try out that pool!

Room Tip: I would recommend you to get a room in the main building, to avoid having to get fully dressed to wa...

Fars Hatt is situated about 1 km from the commercial center of Kungälv, pretty location and nice exterior, next to the river and below the old castle. So far, so good. However, going inside you soon discover that the place is in urgent need of renovation. Our room door was very hard to open (someone had tried with a crowbar, judging from the burglar type marks around the lock). The room is small and the bathroom the tiniest I have ever seen; sit on the toilet and you can rest your chin on the washbasin, shower curtain clings to your back when you are washing, get the picture? Musty smell and a distinct 70's look to it.

Breakfast room large and nice view, but bread soggy (both the rolls and the crisp rye bread). Dead insects collecting on the window sills next to our table.

On the positive side, staff were friendly and helpful, otherwise I would have rated it "terrible".

At 1200 sek per night it is a ripoff. It is the only hotel in Kungälv so if you need to stay the night there then do, but otherwise keep going.

I was booked into this hotel by a colleague and was very pleasantly surprised. The hotel is in a great location overlooking the river and castle in the old part of a very picturesque town. It is very different from the typical Scandinavian style hotel. The staff were very friendly and service was excellent even though the restaurant and bar were packed. The room was OK and both breakfast and dinner very good if a little pricey. This is one of the few Scandinavian hotels that you will remember and worth going back to.

Room Tip: ask for a good room when booking

I'm pretty sure prison cells are bigger then the room I was in. Little sliver of a bed on the wall with some type of pads rather then a mattress and the room smelled so bad of bleach (or worse) that it made me sick. shower and toilette are crammed in a 3x8 area wich was just a joke. Breakfast typical euro lunch meat, some breads and the eggs were white and mushy, kind of looked like oatmeal. Had a jack and coke that night, was only $16! Parking, good luck, theres about ten spaces out back. Nothing really to walk to from here other then the 200 year old crumbling church across the street. I'd never go back. Does the lil "really happy" guy at the counter always need to have his finger or napkin shoved up his nose when there are people in front of him? nasty

We really stayed here in july 2010, but that option wasnt available here. We stayed as a couple and had a friend with us this time, we stayed here before and were then several friends, and we all liked it very much. This hotel has a descent price for being about 15 minutes or so from Gothenburg. The restaurant and bar has really good quality on its food and drinks, but is a bit pricey. They have a really nice area outside, where you could eat, and later in the night drink, along with its live music, and we had great fun with both staff and visitors. The rooms have been quite nice each time, we had a view facing the riverside which I can recommend. The room was clean and well kept and the beds were comfortable, which I think is importent for a good stay. The staff was friendly and breakfast was very good. You should also visit the castle that lies straight across the river from the hotel, its worth the while. We have been coming back and will continue to do so :-)

Room Tip: Facing the river. 3rd floor or up.

Thank you for your positive feedback. The location as you say, is very appreciated by many guests. Kungalv is a cosy city and if you like to visit Gothenburg is it only 15 minutes away by car or expressbus that stop outside the hotel.
We put a lot effort to offer a wide range of options at breakfast, serving both hot and cold dishes. We are trying offer a menue in the restaurant that fit all guest.
Welcome back !
