“What a nice surprise!”
Reviewed July 20, 2012

This hotel is situated centrally and at the same time very nicely in a quiet street partly overlooking the river. We got upgraded to a spacious, beautiful and serene corner room with a lot of greenery and water outside our windows. We also had a little balcony overlooking the river with chairs and a little table. The sleep quality was excellent, the staff very forthcoming and nice. The breakfast room felt a bit old fashioned in a nice way and the breakfast buffé was tasty with homebaked bread. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: Ask for river view.

We have been in STockholm several times so we chose to take the short 40 minute drive to stay in this lovely small town. the hotel had big rooms reasonably priced and a very nice breakfast. Helen spoke perfect English and directed us to a great Greek Restaurant in walking distance and then to the church and castle. A beautiful location!

Stayed here on business for a night and didn't really know what to expect. Inside the hotel is quite grand and the room was very serviceable. It wasn't modern as such (and intended not to be), but had some lovely furniture to compliment it. The bathroom had old styling but again this wasn't in the 'tired' sense of the word. Wifi worked perfectly and had a good night sleep. Breakfast was great too - no complaints at all. Easy check in and check out. Would definitely stay here again at the right price.

The hotel is very elegant and the breakfast exceeded our expectations. Staff is really friendly and our view was great (looking at the river and seeing the upper side of the castle).

Room Tip: We had a nice room with view on the river (room 211)

My wife and I stayed there for almost a week, Oct 17-22, 2011 and had a delightful experience. The hotel is a piece of Uppsala past, a bit on the worn side but very charming. The staff was excellent, the service very fine. Our room, a corner room with a balcony was large and very appealing, though closet space was a bit limited and the bathroom small--rather typical of older European hotels. It had a nice bar area, the breakfast area was very appealing and the breakfast was ample and good--typical for northern. European countries--a large buffet with almost everything one would wish. It was a short walk to the train station, which has very good connections to Stockholm (40 minutes) and the Airport (20 minutes). There were many good and interesting restaurants near and even the state owned bottle shop was only three or four blocks away (it's the only one in town and is open from 10AM to 7PM, M-Sat--so be aware that if you want wine in your room at a relatively modest price buy it there). Warning--Sweden, at least for Americans is very expensive.

Room Tip: As said above, the double rooms with the small balconies--they have a great view of the river and th...

I stayed here for two nights for business. As such, the internet WiFi worked well, and there was enough room to work. There were lots of electrical outlets to plug in my various peripherals.

The room itself was very small, and the bed seemed very tiny as well. It gave a reasonably comfortable sleep...but since I was jet-lagged, I'm not sure I could comment much further.

The bathroom was very tiny, and not very clean with mould patches on the tiles in the shower. There is no tub, and the shower is very small. There isn't much air circulation here, so that would contribute to the mould. The sink was small, the toilet was small, but it all worked.

They don't provide you with shampoo, just body wash and a small bar of soap. If you need lotion, or shampoo, I would suggest you bring this yourself.

The location is great, right next to the river. The city is very small, and you can walk everywhere fairly easily including the catherderal and the castle within 10 minutes of the hotel. Shopping is even closer, with different choices of hotels.

The city is very nice, and the location is great. In North America, this would be a 2 star hotel, which gives a great breakfast...think Hampton Inn with breakfast included, but with smaller roooms with much more character. The iron and ironing board is located in the hallway.

The breakfast was good, with a choice of soft/hard boiled eggs, cheeses, breads, cereals, and coffee/tea with juices as well.

I have mixed feelings whether I would stay here again. I would most likely look for another choice, but am not terribly upset that I ended up here.

Room Tip: Get the room with a balcony

I stayed 2 nights at Hotel Hornan which is a well-preserved old hotel in the centre of Uppsala with views over the river. The whole building is refreshingly free of the features of modern international hotels. There is wood everywhere. I liked the paintings around the walls. My room was small but perfectly adequate and clean. The wireless internet was free and worked well. The staff were friendly and helpful. The breakfast offered an excellent choice of tasty and health foods. Uppsala has a beautiful and historic city centre and this hotel is perfectly positioned to walk everywhere. I would happily stay there again. I did not use room service so cannot comment.

Room Tip: A view over the river would be my choice
