“History, waterwiews and experiences all wrapped into one small area”
Reviewed November 25, 2013

This area is the result of careful restorations of the previous home of heavy industry. Textilemills, paperfactories and storagebarns now house museums, restaurants as well as the city concert hall!
Well worth a stroll just for the water and architecture, but the museums and restaurants are also topnotch!

“The Manchester of Sweden”
Reviewed November 25, 2013

Since we live close to the Industrial Landscape we every week make at least one walk in this important part of the industrial history in Sweden. Here old factory Buildings has transformed into keeping students and new IT companies. There are also several nice restaurants and just close by Knappingsborg the Hackerser höfe of Norrkoping.

“A wonderful part of Norrköping”
Reviewed June 3, 2013 via mobile

It it's prime Norrköping was known as Sweden's Manchester but when the factories started moving elsewhere the Industrial landscape became an abandoned part of town. What once was a noisy and dirty part of town is now a wonderful area, making great use of the old factories. The river Motala Stöm's mighty waters run through the area adding an extra oomph to it's character. Hearing, and watching, the powerful water fall through the area is pretty impressive.

The transformation of Norrköping’s industrial landscape began with the city museum, Arbetets museum (Museum of Work) and a concert hall. In the mid 1990s, a part of Linköping University was established in the Industrial landscape. The university has also effected the industrial landscape with new buildings, where one of the consistent approaches has been that these buildings must be made to seem like an addition to the existing cultural history. The area has been delicately renovated over the last 20 years mixing classic restoration with new and modern additions.

There is so much to see and enjoy in this area. If you're in a rush you can settle for a quick stroll though the Industrial landscape but if you have the time there's plenty more to see and experience. Go for a meal att the lovely Italian restaurant Enoteket, with a beautiful view of the waterfall. Enjoy a delicious lunch in Knäppingen located in the City museum or stop for a coffee at the Museum of work. The museums coffee shop on the ground floor has a great little play area for children! If you have the time there are usually good exhibitions at the Town Museum and the Museum of work (both free and located next to each other). Both museums have great gift shops well worth a visit!

If you're interested in visualisation I recommend visiting the Visualisation centre. They have an interesting exhibition showing how modern visulisation technology can be used. The also have a dome showing 3D films on a massive screen. A top tip for children, and parents!

The industrial landscape is unique and well worth a visit.
