The resort is located about ten minutes from Lamai and offers a shuttle service into town for shopping or dinner and drinks. The resort itself is secluded and quiet and that was what we were looking for. Villas are very comfortable and well appointed. Lovely pool overlooking the beach and at night you can see the fishing boats in the Gulf. Staff were friendly and considerate, especially the night watchman with his trusty flashlight.
If you just want to relax and enjoy the quiet, this is the place!

We stayed there for 4 days and 3 nights in July 2012

Plus points
Rose, one of the reception staff was really helpful and went out of her way to help us. She is probably the only one who can speak decent English and can understand you properly other than Mem.

The rooms in the main building are decent.

Minus points

English Proficiency
Other than Rose, the rest of the staff especially the one at reception cannot speak English well. It gets really frustrating at times.

Breakfast
The breakfast was a major disappointment. I have been to hotels with lesser stars than Banburee's but with a lot better breakfast. It was just croissants and toast bread and cereal. No cooked food. It was so bad that we only went for the first morning. Did not go the rest of the mornings even though it was free.

Groupon
The pictures in the Groupon website look nothing like what we got. So misleading.

Reception after 10pm
Does not exist. Try calling after 10pm and you get a disgruntled guy waking up on the other line telling you grumpily to call back the next morning. He even hung up on me once when I wanted help with my TV channels.

The location
It is really away from where everything else happens. Taxi service at 500bhat per person is rather expensive so we had to rent a motorbike of which, even then, was about a 20-25 minute ride to Chaweng.

Feedback
Attempted to tell the staff about feedback but they don't appear like they know how to receive feedback. They just nodded.

All in all, I feel deceived as the price I paid was almost twice that of a 3 star hotel in Koh Phangan that was far more superior in so many ways. It is not worth your money. I feel that our biggest problem is that the Groupon voucher was misleading as the hotel did not meet our expectations.

Dear Sir & Madame

First of all, we would like to thank you for taking your times writing us valuable comments. We were extreamly sorry to know that you did not experience the service that you expected. Your points are very well noted and I would appreciate if you could please let me take this opportunity to introduce our resort to you once again.

Banburee Wellness Resort & Spa is centrally located at Lamset Beach, Samui, surrounded by lined of mountains and faces beach at the front. It takes about 25 kms from Chaweng and 10 kms from Lamai. Therefore, it would be perfect for anyone who needs quiet and peaceful vacations. However, for anyone who needs a street walk, we provide a shuttle three times a day and it cost only 50 Bath to Lamai, 100 Bath to Chaweng.

We do apologize about the breakfast service. The Breakfast is served from 7.00-10.30 AM, and after 11.00 AM we have to change the line preparing for lunch.

For the reception and english professional, we appreciate you bringing this matter to our attention. We will ensure that our staff will be able to inform all necessary and information to you and they will be ready to welcome you for the next time.

We hope that we will be professionally at your service once again.

Your Sincerely

We cannot understand bad comments about this hotel because we had such a wonderful time there and we have a lot of travel experience for sure. Additionally we are demanding (honestly).

The staff is very friendly and always caring. The rooms, especially the mansions, are spacy, clean and stylish. Of course we could not swim in the sea but the pool was quite empty nearly anytime we chose to stay there. Also there is a whirlpool (by the way there is also one in the bathroom belonging to the room) providing the guest with the best view to the sea ever.

We did not want to leave. So, we decided to come back. When we did, everybody recognized us and gave us a lovely welcome. The hotel manager and one of the receptionists took us to the harbour when we finally had to leave the island. They gave u presents and all of us cried as we are a member of their family.

If you purchased a Groupon voucher for the Banburee Wellness Resort & Spa, demand a refund immediately. This place is a desolate scene from a horror movie--what might have been bright and shiny thirty years in the past is now a wasteland of crumbling facades (complete with musty odor...as if none of the toilets have been flushed in over a decade). There might be one or two other people who have the misfortune of occupying the resort at this moment, but other than that it is eerily quiet and abandoned. I spied an uneaten pizza cast aside in the empty restaurant--I don't dare eat here following such an ominous warning as that. My partner and I are checking out a day early from our two-night booking, tomorrow. We would bail today except for torrential rains--and a 45-minute ride from Chaweng. Even at $143 for 2 nights via Groupon, this place is no deal! You couldn't pay me to suffer this place--the zombie-like staff who nod and smile when you ask what happened to your promised deluxe room with jacuzzi, satellite TV, and private balcony. The jacuzzi is a small bathtub with jets. The satellite TV offers 4 channels. And the private balcony is neither private nor large enough to fit a chair. The pool area was void of staff/service members when we swam in the leaf-infested waters at 5pm. And to top it all off, this is the first place that has charged us for ice cubes (100 Baht/ $3.33 AUD/USD) to complement an already over-priced minibar. Preposterous! I can't get out of this hell-hole soon enough--shame on Groupon for not investigating this place prior to dangling the carrot.

I booked this resort as part of a package deal back in January thru Orbitz. Well June finally rolled around and my new bride and I were off on our honeymoon. I had been in Email contact with Rose for several months prior to arrival asking numerous questions. As she promised, a shuttle was waiting for us at the airport and was easy to find. After about a 35 minute drive we arrived. The resort is isolated and quiet and just what we wanted. It was absolutely beautiful. The staff was amazing. Some of them spoke limited English, some spoke English very well. But then again it is Thailand, and you can’t expect everyone to speak your language as well as you. It also gave a great opportunity to practice our Thai. We were promptly taken to our room on the 3rd floor in the deluxe room building. Along the way we were amazed at how well the grounds were maintained, and how friendly everyone was. The room afforded a beautiful view of a small beach and the pool. They lugged our luggage the whole way there. The room had beautiful flowers floating in the tub, and our towels folded into birds on the bed with more flowers. Tile floors make for a cooler experience in the humidity. Upon entering the room you place your key in a holder that activates your power. When you leave and take your key 15 seconds later it kills the power to the room. Pretty eco-friendly feature! All the lights, the A/C and the TV can be controlled from a controller next to the bed. The A/C unit was quiet and works fast! All the rooms had a balcony with chairs. The bathroom has a shower and a tub.

The restaurant was very well priced, and the free breakfast every morning included cereal, lots of fresh fruit, yogurt, eggs and meat cooked to order, juice and coffee for free. The restaurant overlooks the pool and the ocean. The staff there was amazing and we enjoyed our time with them.

They rent scooters for 250 Baht a day or $7.93 US a day. We rented these after a few days to allow us to explore everything the island had to offer. We heard the horror stories of scooter accidents and fatalities. Most of the poor riding and accidents is after dark, and by drunken stupid tourists. Wear a helmet and ride smart and you will be fine.

The shuttle to Chaweng and Lamai is 50 Baht each way per person. I’d do the scooters though and make your own schedule.

There is security roving the property 24 hours a day and they were super friendly and helpful. I can not say enough good things about this resort or the wonderful people there! I know as soon as I post this I will remember something else we loved about it.
