“Beautiful Wedding Day at Baan Sarika”
Reviewed July 31, 2013

My husband and I got married in front of Baan Sarika a few weeks ago. The wedding was gorgeous and went off without a hitch. The setup was beautiful and the flowers and arch on the beach were exactly how I had imagined. I had done all of my planning through Debbie prior to arriving and she was a great help!
The only problem we had was with the fireworks that we had booked not happening. The vendor had forgotten! Debbie was incredibly apologetic about it and it wasn't the hotel's fault either. She even comp-ed us some more paper lanterns because of it, which I thought was a very nice gesture.
The food was excellent as well! Everyone was raving about it! We had a mix of Thai and western food and all of it was excellent.

Baan Sarika was gorgeous and perfect for us! I had read in previous reviews that its falling apart and was a bit nervous, however, I don't think some people understand that the upkeep in a tropical place is ridiculously hard. Not to mention, a lot of the "flaws" gave it it's character. I wouldn't change anything!

The only complaint would lie with the restaurant, the Clubhouse. I had a lot of people from the week before the wedding tell me that they would ask for something and they would be out of it. I understand this is an island, but it is also a 5 star resort and I think this is something that should really be fixed. It's something small, but isn't that why you pay the extra money? Anyways, the food is great there. Nice and fresh and everything we had was great. Breakfast every morning was nice as well, just the flies all over that put a damper on things, but at the same time, there really isn't much you can do but cover the food, which they do.

All in all it was a trip we will never forget!

We stayed a Samui Beach Village in May and the resort was amazing. Our room was right on a long white, picture postcard sandy beach with crystal blue sea - such a wonderful view to wake up to at any time of the day :-)
Staff were really friendly and helpful, always smiling and could not do enough for you and went out of their way to make our stay just fantastic!
Great food at the on resort restaurant and not overly expensive either. There is lots to do if you want to or you can just relax and do nothing which is just what we did.
Can not wait to go back to this slice of paradise.

We have just returned from Samui Beach Village a few weeks ago and thought it was average. Note check in is at 3pm as we arrived at 11am due to our flight arrival time, which they were very much aware of, and had to wait for our room in the stinking heat as the restaurant is not air conditioned and the fly's are terrible, was shocked at the reception office a small shed expecting to find a nice reception area. The villa looked beautiful on the internet but is tired and need of some TLC the beds are like concrete. We ended up putting the lounge cushions on the bed to sleep, also we had to put any dry food in the microwave at night as mice had chewed into packets left out and my watch band after they gave up trying to find food left out. Again we had complained of this but were ignored until we checked out, then it seemed to be an issue, and they would attend to strait away. Bit Late! There was broken glass in the spa that my father stood on, and after 2 complaints they vacuumed the pool. Lucky my Daughter didn't find the 4 inch pieces of glass in her foot. Also no BBQ in the beach Kabana. Not really value for money as our second time at koh samui and preferred the Renaissance Koh Samui Resort & Spa. Upside the Thai staff were very friendly, and made us feel welcome. The beach looked great on the internet, but again not what we expected. Mainly mud flats in the summer months being around June, so if you want to go for a swim, forget it, the pool is it. Tip. Hire a vehicle, which is available from reception at about $60 AUD a day, which if you are sitting in the heat for 4 Hrs waiting for your room to be ready, you can sit in air conditioning and go for a drive to view to beautiful sites Samui has to offer, as the resort is a fair distance from anywhere being Chaweng Beach or Lamai Beach. Great place for families if you don't care too much about where you are and want a peaceful holiday staying away from the hustle and bustle, but for me wont be back.

Dear Derek G,

Thank you for your feedback and expressing your points of view following your recent stay with us at Samui Beach Village. I would also like to thank you for the guest feedback form left on your departure where you gave your villa Baan Flora the highest rating whilst rating everything else Good to Excellent and providing us with your nomination for employee of the month. These views are again echoed by the guests who checked in after you, a regular contributor to TripAdvisor, and whose comments included “We stayed in Bann Flora the villa was stunning with 2 private pools and a Jacuzzi. And you are directly on the beach. The beds are very comfortable and every room has an en suite bathroom. And are cleaned every day”

Often we have guests checking in and out of a villa on the same day and require several hours between guests to ensure everything is made ready for new arrivals. Prior to your vacation we contacted you and in our pre-arrivals pack explained our check-in and check-out times and invited you to contact us if you required an early check-in, something we make available to all guests. All guests of Samui Beach Village are invited to use our spa facilities on arrival at no charge, enabling you to freshen up, get changed and begin enjoying all Samui has to offer from the moment you arrive.

With regards to your comment about mice, our guest services team took immediate action when you expressed this concern and our pest control company came to your villa within hours, their report stated there was no evidence whatsoever of vermin, they also took extra precautionary measures to provide additional peace of mind.

We are delighted to have many returning guests, some of whom have been coming to stay with us every year for 6 and 7 years, many of these guest boast that we have the best beach in Samui, with powder white sand, calm waters and breath-taking views.

Many of our villas and houses have an integrated BBQ for guests to use, for those that do not we have a number of range BBQ's that can be delivered for guests to use at no charge - many guests take advantage of this and also book a private chef to do the cooking - a fantastic treat for any occasion.

Overall I find your review contradictory to the feedback you provided whilst on resort and feel the main issue was that of not booking an early check-in, please be assured I shall look in to additional ways of clarifying the information we provide to guests and how we communicate this.

Also, I would like to add that we offer several vehicle hire packages to our guests so they can see the island, even though it is a very small island, transport is necessary for those who like to explore. With Lamai being a mere 15 minutes and Chaweng slightly further at 30 minutes from resort, we consider to be relatively short distance, so we are proud to offer a FREE bus service four times per day to these destinations to all of our guests.

With kind regards,
Phil Dunlop

Just completed a week at Samui Beach Village for extended family of 15 people in Baan Sarika and Baan Rim Haad. Had an excellent time. Accommodation varied between the 2 properties w Baan Sarika being more traditional and older accomodation w Baan Rim Haad more modern. Both right on the beach and very comfortable. Contrary to some recent postings we found the airconditioning to work well(albeit louder at Sarika) and the accomodation very clean and incredibly well serviced. The staff everywhere could not be faulted w extremely prompt response times to any request(e.g.. filtered cool water for the cooler replaced immediately when asked). The food too was excellent and the restaurant staff not only efficient but at times entertaining(esp. our favourite "Pui"). The only complaint we had was that eventhough water was free everywhere else it was charged in the restaurant. At 100Baht (even though on any other standard cheap) this seemed an unnecessary fee for ??? reason. We ate 3 meals a day there and found even the fussiest were catered for w an extensive menu of Thai and Western foods. In regards to the beach yes it is very tidal and takes quite a walk to get wet but I assume it's seasonal. All in all highly recommend

This is our first time visiting Koh Samui from Hong Kong and also first time staying at Samui Beach Village. We stayed at Baan Flora and Baan Astasia. We have a group of 13 and all of us had an absolutely wonderful trip staying at Samui Beach Village. We loved the service, the friendly greetings, the location of the Villa, we loved them all.

Prior our trip, We had a lot of questions about the trip, Villa, car rental, pick up, facility, location just lots questions and UK contacts: Will Brock and Carolyn Welding gave us all the answers and support that made us worry-free Thank you so much!

Upon arrival, we already got very friendly greetings with cold drinks and towels that made us so relax as we were still trying to get used to the super hot weather in June/July season. Some of us immediately went check out all the facility as the lovely beach volleyball court, tennis court, kids playroom, gym, water pool all right beside the check-in Sala. Afterwards we arrived our Villa, everyone was so happy since the spacious and great interior design, the lovely swimming pool, all appliances were in very good condition, we already knew that this was gonna be a fabulous trip.

Baan Flora is located right by the beach. Super soft sand and big beach, we woke up at 5am and viewed the sun rising, weather so cool at 5am and we had a long walk and enjoyed great morning at this fantastic scene. We also managed a great poolside BBQ dinner at our Villa with the help from the team lending us a great grill. Big thanks for helping to setup and we had lovely gatherings, also thanks to the teammate (Ms Eli and Amma and few other ladies in the office => sorry for wrong spelling) for all the assistance as we always change our planning, our rental cars got problems with tires and got super fast repair, one A/C broke down and kitchen lights were down too at nite and the team fixed it in no time, all of these services made us super happy and we highly appreciated.

The location of this hotel is at the very south of Koh Samui and we specially chose this as we want to stay in a silient place away from noise and crowds and big restaurants. This hotel is perfectly located at what we want.

In our four days trip, we ride around the whole island, dinner at very good restaurants (Dining on the Rock Restaurant) and the Fishermen Market (Seaside Restaurant - dinner table on lovely soft sand) and lots of local style Thai restaurants and local markets at Nathon and Chewang for shopping local handicrafts. Time went so fast and suddenly was time to back home... we all missed Koh Samui and the lovely smile of the Samui Beach Village team and we definitely will travel again to Koh Samui and of course will stay at Samui Beach Village again!

We stayed at Samui Beach Village - Villa Baan Chang from 27th June to 1st July. We were a family of 10 and we had an amazing time at the Villa. The services were all perfect right from pick ups to the day we left. The staff at the villa especially Ellie were very helpful and we were well taken care of.
The highlight for us was the private pool we had to ourselves at the villa and all the appliances at the villa were working in perfect order.
We have many happy memories of this trip and we cannot thank the staff at SBV enough! Cheers and hope to see you guys soon!

We stayed here from 8 June to 12 June 2013. We booked this villa as the pictures on the website showed a nice private beach on the resort.
When we arrived at the resort, we were a bit surprised that there was no proper lobby but just a small office. There was a total lack of welcome upon arrival and it was obvious that there was a staff shortage and the manager appeared very flustered.

After waiting for almost half an hour, we were finally brought to our villa.
We rented a 3 bedroom villa which was quite nice and spacious.

The biggest disappointment was the 'dry' beach which was more of a mud flat. There was no water coming into the beach at all. So if you are thinking of a nice vacation on the beach, this is not the place! The pictures on the website are misleading!

Food at the restaurant was average.

This place is also too far from Lamai and chaweng town itself, so ended up spending alot of money on taxi rides. each trip cost at least 700 baht, and all the rides were more frightful and dangerous than roller coaster rides as there were too many reckless drivers on the road.

Overall, Samui Beach Village is a let down and don't be fooled by the pictures on their website.

Room Tip: Don't bother with oceanfront villas as the beach is a mud flat.

Dear Soosg,

Thank you for your review, ordinarily we take all the reviews from our guests very seriously, they form valuable feedback and assist us in continually improving the experience we provide to our guests.

In this case, I find it difficult to separate constructive feedback from what is misleading and in some cases completely untrue.

Samui Beach Village is situated on a beautiful, private, white sand beach with safe waters protected by a natural coral cove and as stated below by the previous reviewer 'The sand on the beach was just amazing and we loved long walks on it.'

On arrival all guests are greeted by our guest services team in a beautiful outdoor reception Sala with welcome drinks and a cold face towel, for early arrivals we offer the use of our Spa facilities to freshen up and enjoy every minute of their vacation. Only in the event of inclement weather would you be invited over to our reception office to check-in. Our team of 77 staff are always eager to please and we receive nothing except praise for their attentiveness to our guests needs.

You arrived at Samui Beach Village off the morning flight, and our team work extremely hard to have your villa turned around and ready for you over 3 hours before your scheduled check-in time.

With regards to your other comments, Samui Beach Village is located a few minutes from the hustle and bustle of Lamai and Chaweng to where we offer a FREE complimentary shuttle service 4 times per day. As for the taxi fares, this is completely untrue, I have taken the opportunity to look at your bill and I can see only a single fare for 700 baht with the remainder being for half or less than half of this amount.

Phil Dunlop
