“A very welcome retreat in a beautiful location”
Reviewed August 26, 2016 for a stay in August 2016

We (6 adults + 5 children aged 10 - 13) stayed here for the 2nd week in August.
On arrival, we were greeted by the owners (a very pleasant couple who live on site but remained very unintrusive) who kindly presented us with nibbles & wine to bridge the gap before we went shopping.
The property is situated on the edge of a national forest, which meant the night-sky was not affected by urban light, so we had clear views of the meteor showers that occur in August.
The facilities were excellent and thankfully the time seemed to pass slowly. It was interesting just watching everyone unwind. The furniture & decor was to a very high standard, with some very nice additional touches (music & DVDs on tap, board games and bikes available, plus a telescope for watching the wildlife. especially the kingfisher).
At no time were the kids bored - the pool & hot-tub were in use all the time, and the Games room & grounds filled any remaining spare time.
The grounds were sufficiently large for long walks with the dogs, and indeed offered enough to allow the fitter members amongst us to do their running.

All in all, a thoroughly enjoyable week !

“Impossible to fault. Thought of everything !”
Reviewed July 29, 2016 for a stay in July 2016

Enjoyed a week here with 11 family and friends Never felt crowded with so much space.
Outdoor area is fantastic with covered pool and hot tub.
Evening spent round the fire pit watching the night sky and the passing of the International Space Station. So quiet and remote here that can absolutely get away from it all
The owners have spent 15 years and a lot of time and money making this perfect retreat. They live in a neighbouring bungalow and were available to help but otherwise let us come and go and enjoy the place as if our own.
The games room is vast with something for everyone. Bring your music with you if you play keyboard or guitar !
We were very lucky with the weather so didn't want to be indoors but the cinema room could be a source of entertainment if the weather turned.
Hard to imagine a better place for a self contained family holiday
There isn't a lot nearby although only 50 min to Limogue airport. Most towns worth a visit are a 30 to 40 min drive although Jumilihac does have a restaurant and shops.
A car is essential however and we ended up self catering more than going out.
The internet was unreliable but the owners did what they could to resolve and are looking into a permanent solution
Cannot recommend highly enough.
And with the games room could be a viable winter retreat.

“Perfect holiday home!”
Reviewed June 27, 2016 for a stay in June 2016

Myself and 9 others stayed here for 4 nights and it was just perfect, we wish we could have stayed longer! The house itself is huge and was kept spotless by Richard and Lynne. There is a lovely swimming pool area with a jacuzzi and sauna which we made the most of (thanks to the hot weather we had)! This also looks out onto the beautiful countryside and the lake which you can zip wire across or relax on the boat. The games room (pool table, darts board, table tennis, instruments etc.) was definitely an added bonus and was where we spent most nights. Richard and Lynne were brilliant hosts, making sure we had everything we needed but also allowing us to have our own space. I will be sure to recommend Les Grandes Landes to others! There is absolutely nothing negative to say about this place and we would love to return one day!

“Amazing Holiday In An Exceptional Holiday Home”
Reviewed June 23, 2016 for a stay in June 2016

Myself and a group of nine friends recently visited Les Grandes Landes, for an amazing five day holiday in this incredible farm house.

Richard and Lynne have thought of everything for their guests and are the perfect holiday home hosts, available to answer any questions but always gave us space, making us feel completely at home. The house itself is beautiful with total wow factor, and meet every need the 10 of us had.

We were lucky enough to have sunshine throughout our stay, which meant laying by the pool soaking up the views was our main activity! The pool is the perfect temperature for cooling off and the large outdoor table and BBQ meant we were able to enjoy lunches and dinner in the sunshine. However, with the games room just over the courtyard and the televisions throughout the house and the projector screen for movie night, even without the sun we would have been perfectly entertained.

The zip line, lake and little boat provided an afternoon of entertainment, with the games room being perfect for the boys wanting to catch a bit of shade and play a few games of pool.

Having hired cars we were able to explore the surrounding area a little bit, and visited Brantome, a beautiful little town only a short drive away. The farmhouse is set in an ideal location, it was amazing to have such privacy yet still be within a reasonable distance to enjoy an afternoon by the river.

I cannot recommend Les Grandes Landes highly enough, from the perfectly decorated interior to the exceptional views and outside space, including a fire pit which was great for roasting marshmallows and spending an evening outside without getting chilly!

I look forward to returning again in the very near future.

Thank you for an amazing holiday!

“Fantastic Holiday Memories to Last a Lifetime”
Reviewed September 19, 2015 for a stay in September 2015

This is an exceptional property created by an exceptional couple. Set in beautiful grounds which provide complete privacy and fabulous views of the Dordogne, the house is magnificent. The quality of the accommodation is of the highest standard and the facilities are stunning. Every room is luxurious and carefully thought out. We were blessed with September weather of 30◦C so made great use of the outside heated pool and jacuzzi and were able to eat outside looking out over the countryside - just perfect. Our week's stay was the best ever with Richard and Lynne ensuring that we all had a great time. As well as the pool and jacuzzi there is a sauna and for extra entertainment a superb games room in the barn opposite where you can play table tennis, pool, darts, music or watch a large selection of movies on a cinema-sized screen. There are just so many lovely aspects to the property that, along with many other reviewers, we thoroughly recommend that you experience for yourself this piece of paradise. The pretty village of Brantome is nearby and the Chateau at Jumilac - Le- Grande is worth a visit. There are lots of nice restaurants within a reasonable distance if you can tear yourself away from this idyllic hideaway. At night you can see so many stars in the sky it takes your breath away; but the best 5 stars are what this reviewer awards Lynne and Richard for their holiday of a lifetime.

“Amazing holiday!!!”
Reviewed September 14, 2015 for a stay in September 2015

We had a fantastic stay at The Grandes Landes Retreat with friends. The property is stunning, full of character with original vaulted beamed ceilings, beautiful decor and all the modern conviniences you could wish for. We stayed in the master bedroom which was enormous with stunning views from the bedroom and bathroom of the 65 acre estate. The large fully equipped kitchen was a joy to cook in. The weather was perfect and so we made full use of the sauna, whirlpool, heated pool and the large sun terrace furnished with loungers and outdoor furniture so we could eat outside. There is also a games hall housed in a huge converted barn with pool table, table tennis, darts, drop down screen and bar. The owners Lynne and Richard gave us a warm welcome and where on hand to advise on activities and restaurents in the area. We had a fantastic holiday in a picturesque area of France and are planning on returning to Les Grandes Landes in 2016.

“A truly exceptional holiday location”
Reviewed August 29, 2015 for a stay in July 2015

Les Grandes Landes Retreat is the most amazing location for a holiday. The house itself is beautiful with absolutely everything you could need (Richard and Lynne have thought of everything) The house has lots of room to accommodate even a large group of people without it feeling cramped at all.

The pool area is wonderful, the Oak framed roof above the pool provides shade so that everyone, especially children can enjoy time in the pool without the fear of getting sun burnt. While others who enjoy the sunshine can sit close-by on the patio. We especially enjoyed our evening walks around the grounds, the blackberry picking and having family film nights in the barn where we could all sit on the sofas and enjoy a film together.

I have to admit i was a little concerned when I realised that the owners Lynne and Richard lived on site as I didn't want to feel watched and that we couldn't relax and enjoy our time there. However this was not the case at all. Yes, the owners live close by but they are very unobtrusive, you might see them going for a walk in the distance or Richard cutting the grass but you really don't notice they are there at all.

I stayed with my extended family and we all agreed that Les Grandes Landes was absolutely perfect and we are looking forward to planning another stay soon.
