“Vegetarian Cheese!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 27, 2012

It's rare to find Vegetarian cheese and the selection was amazing, not to mention the taste! Loaded up and am excited to try them when I get home! Had a "death by chocolate" ice cream well visiting, "YUMMY". Excellent service, the ladies working were very nice and knowledgeable. Well worth a visit!

“Very mediocre”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 12, 2012

We visited the Black River Cheese Company and found it to be very uninteresting. 3 baskets of cubed cheese and toothpicks were available for sampling - not an artisan cheese. A wall of coolers with cheese to purchase. Much like a Macs Milk store. There was no one with information or any one to speak to about the cheese making process. A cooler of ice cream was also availablie for an ice cream cone for the children. The only employee was the cashier and that seemed to be her only function. We were disappointed with what we thought would be an informatve and interesing experience and it fell very flat.

“not worth it”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 2, 2012

So, here we are, touring around Prince Edward County looking for artisan cheese and local wines and foods. Reading about Black River in the local magazines intrigued us to go as they claim to make artisan cheeses. Once we arrived, it felt like a convenience store. Line ups for ice cream on the end and a panel of refrigerators with cheese on the other. There was a table with tiny cubed cheese and tooth picks for sampling and that was it. No one offering info or talking about the cheeses. We looked through the fridge and there was some cheddar, aged cheddar and a "new" cheese product, which was not available for sampling. I would not go all the way to the factory store again as we expected to actually find some interesting artisan cheeses to both sample and purchase. Very disappointing.
