The Miller's House Bed and Breakfast

Certificate of Excellence

Hard to describe what the highlights were because everything about the place and the host were excellent. The breakfast was healthy, home-made, locally-sourced and well presented. You will likely wake up earlier than anticipated to the smell of whatever Bob has put to bake in the oven. Bob went out of his way to make us feel comfortable and he is also a great conversationalist. Especially if you share a common interest and appreciation of all things Argentina. :0)

Clean country air, respite from the city, freshly prepared breakfasts beautifully presented, spotless accommodation in an old "Miller's House" situated on the bank of a mill pond. Sounds too good to be true, but this was our first impression of Bob Cowan's "The Miller's House". Bob is a friendly, warm and knowledgeable host. No detail is too small and Bob's hands on day to day attention to his B & B reveals itself in every nook and cranny. There is no pressure here. If I were to describe the overall feeling - the words serene countenance come to mind. We give Bob Cowan and The Miller's House B & B the highest rating. The Miller's House fulfills all the traits of an excellent B&B- clean, well-appointed, spacious rooms and delicious, filling breakfasts. But the host, Bob, takes everything a step further. Breakfast was entirely made up of home-made foods, from the delicious jams to the tasty biscuits and muffins. Where possible, he also uses locally-sourced ingredients, some of which he grows himself. Everything was scrumptious.

The house and grounds are perfectly lovely, and it was a delight to spend an evening munching on local cheese, sipping local cider, and enjoying the fire that Bob built for us. Indeed, Bob was incredibly accommodating throughout our visit. Aside from always asking if we needed anything, and offering us tips on what to try (and what to skip) in the area, he was very generous with the extras. He provided us with beach chairs and a pass to Sandbanks, offered us bottles of water throughout and some allergy meds when my partner developed a bit of a reaction to her mosquito bites, and greeted us on our second evening with a few glasses of some delicious Rosehall Run sparking rose.

In sum, it was a perfectly lovely stay, and I'd return if in Prince Edward County again. Just a quick note that Milford is about 15 minutes away from Picton and is much more country than small town. This was perfectly suited to us, but if you want to walk out and be on a busier main street, you might want to stay in Picton proper. But the quiet and the scenic beauty of Milford is highly recommended!

Room Tip: We stayed in the Garden View room, and it was very spacious and quiet despite being in the front of...

I recently stayed at The Miller’s House Bed and Breakfast as a part of a group and we had the most wonderful experience. The rooms were spacious and comfortable with the perfect balance of rustic charm and modern functionality. Over our two night stay we woke up to homemade biscuits, muffins and fresh coffee followed by beautifully arranged fresh fruit, crisp bacon, eggs and crepes. The grounds outside the B&B were the perfect setting to sit outside and relax with a book or get our whole group together to chat over a couple bottles of wine before our dinner reservation. As fabulous as the accommodations and the food were the best part of our stay was our host, Bob. He took the time to set up our dinner reservations and give us helpful tips about the local area and what to see and do…and even what to avoid! His humour and hospitality made what would normally have been an extremely pleasant stay into an exceptional one. Thank you to Bob for making our trip so memorable!!

We're a VERY picky family and are rather critical of where we stay and found The Miller's House to be absolutely wonderful. Nice and clean. Bob was an amazing host and the facility is close to everything in the area. Great for families... our kids stayed in the "kids room" and had a blast. Bob's breakfasts were truly exceptional. We'll definitely return next time we're in the county.

ps. check out the Milford Bistro... incredible dining.

We are a young couple in our 30s and really enjoyed our stay in the Garden View room at the Miller's House.

The room was clean, comfortable, quiet, private and well appointed. The Miller’s House has its own distinctive charm but without being tacky (as some B&Bs can be).

Breakfast was also great! Standouts: farm fresh eggs, a cup full of delicious raspberries, a refreshing 'berry soup’ and tasty biscuits and homemade jams (cherry…our particular favourite). Because we are a young, new couple, we tended to join breakfast a little late. While this was definitely us not showing model guest behaviour (arriving late is not recommended or very likely appreciated by ANY host), Bob was never rude and served us the plates we missed. We felt welcomed.

In fact, what really made the stay at the Miller’s House was our gracious, entertaining and open-minded host Bob. He gave local recommendations and suggestions and made reservations at nearby restaurants on our behalf.

Thank you for making our stay comfortable and special, Bob! We look forward to returning soon.

Bob was a wonderful host and makes a great breakfast! Literally everything was close by; a few minutes drive to the sandbanks and a dozen wineries. And you walk into Milford for dinner! Will definitely be back to this quaint spot.
Thank you for taking care of us, Bob.
