We've stayed at many bed and breakfast and many high end hotels in the world I can honestly say that the Miller's House is exceptional. It's memorable because of the host, the service, and the food. Bob Cowan owns the B&B and it is because of his warmth and hospitality that we would return in a heartbeat.
We spent 4 days at the Miller's House and wish we could have spent more. We'd read on TripAdivsor and others about the "great breakfasts" and wondered just how good they could be. Well, I can tell you that they do not disappoint. In fact, they are world class - The Four Seasons would be pleased to be serving breakfast this good. I'm not kidding. In fact, I've never stayed at a place where I would find myself wondering and looking forward in anticipation for the next day as to what we would be having for breakfast. When we were there, each breakfast started off with a different fruit plate and home baked scones (blueberry one day, corn the next, etc) before the main breakfast plate arrived that varied from cold blueberry soup (delicious) to melt in your mouth blueberry crepes the next.
The "service" aspect is not something you would expect from a B&B and Bob gave it at the level normally provided at Small Luxury Hotels of the World. When it threatened rain, Bob handed us two extra rain jackets. When we were going to the beach, Bob gave us his cooler, a large beach umbrella and his park pass. When we were wanting to stay longer and he had no room, he called a friend down the street.
Having now returned home, we were talking about how we already miss the 15 minutes or so we spend each morning just before breakfast talking to Bob in the sitting area. It was like catching up with an old friend as we talked about the day, about life or about living in Buenos Aires, where Bob now spends his winters.
We already miss the sound of the waterfall through the bedroom window at night and we miss the silence.
With a review filled with such accolades, what is there to improve? The bathroom on the first floor suite was definitely a little tired and in need of a refurbish (and we heard from people on the second floor that their shower head sounded a bit like a screaming jet plane) but on the second day we were there, contractors had arrived to measure our bathroom for a brand new and expanded bathroom. I hope that goes in before the next time we are back. Even if it isn't, there's too much here to like. In fact, it's one of those gems of a place you hesitate telling others about for fear that the secret will be out and there won't be availability next time!
