Easy to find behind the opera, this place excels in many ways, it is unpretentious, service is fast and efficient, food is great!
Last it is very affordable in this very expensive city!
It is worth patronizing again and again!

You might expect Oscar Wilde to walk in the door of this gorgeous Art Nouveau, wood carved café on the back side of the opera house. We were meeting friends for dinner, so didn't have time to dine, but stopped in for a drink and appetizer. These, in my opinion, are absolutely the best meatballs in the country. Ya hear that? The entire country. And the cocktails are pretty amazing, too. Be sure and make a reservation if you're having dinner, because there aren't many tables and this is a place you'll want to linger and enjoy your dinner.

Prepare to spend the evening there....the food and the service are the show. Elegantly pressed, either pre-fixe or ala carte, each course ( and in between) are presented like acts of a play. Fish for the evening was Artic Char and Striped Perch. Lamb, beef and Quail complete the menu. Try the chocolate dessert to complete your experience. 3 1/2 hours will fly by.

Restaurants in Stockholm are in general expensive - Operakallaren is at the top end of this spectrum. There were four of us for dinner and the total bill was over £1000. We all opted for the Degustation Menu with matching wines - in the case of the two ladies, they were able to opt for half portions of the matched wines which was a very good facility. The food was extraordinarily presented and the taste of each of the seven courses was second to none - absolutely delightful and a true astronomic experience. What tipped us over the £1000 mark was two glasses of 1946 Macallum Special Reserve whisky!!! We experienced superb service which made this a truly memorable night. Would we go back?.....Most certainly!!!
