Stayed here for four nights in July. Quirky oriental-styled decor, including dark wood furniture and red painted walls. African theme (including tribal masks) in the bar. Very comfortable throughout, with friendly, smiley, helpful staff. Our room was quite small and dominated by a massive four-poster bed. Decent bathroom with shower over bath. Everything spotlessly clean. Only thing that we didn't have was air-con...possibly due to the age of the building. A very good fan was provided though. Complimentary breakfast was good and plentiful, as was coffee in the atrium. Free decent wi-fi throughout. Well done Mr. Hellsten...something different to offer the tourists!

Dear, DenbyTravelBugs
Thank you for this lovely review and your kind words. We are so glad you enjoyed your stay with us and appreciated the atmosphere and our service. The temperature of the air is centrally controlled to ensure best possible comfort but also to have minimum effect on the environment.
We are also happy that you enjoyed the breakfast; hope you were able to try the waffles, and that you made use of our complimentary coffee and tea service in the Lobby.

Hope to see you back with us soon again!

Kind Regards,
Per Hellsten

We booked our room after seeing a documentary on Stockholm where the reporter stayed at Hotel Hellsten. We had a lovely room. Although the bed was too soft and not easy on the back, the decor and cleanliness of the room made up for it. The breakfast buffet was extensive and served in a nice, bright and friendly atrium. The hotel is located in a quiet street but within walking distance of the old town.

My company always book us in at Hellsten or Rex as they are close to our office, so I have stayed a couple of times at Hellsten and tried different rooms.
Generally, the value is very good. Staff is always very helpful and service minded - like when I asked for cutlery once, the receptionists just ran off and got me some immediately. Breakfast buffet is greater value than other other hotels i've stayed with (as Rex), for instance you can make your own waffle for breakfast.
I didnt really feel a need to write a review until my last stay there, until they surprised me at a late check-in with a free upgrade to a two floor suite with a nice little sauna.. Needless to say, I really like the hotel, and I look forward to staying here the next time!

Room Tip: I heard that they might have rooms without windows, so make sure you get one with windows..

The hotel was very nice. We came in early, but it was no problem checking in and getting our room early. The staff was very friendly. The breakfast was very good, altough it wasn´t always easy to get a table in the breakfastroom. The room and bathroom were clean. The beds are very soft, so if you have backproblems you may have diffeculties. You get tea and coffee for free, wi-fi, and a computer with printer.
The hotel is in a quiet street, yet not far from downtown. There´s a metro nearby. Overall we were very happy with the hotel and would recommend it.

Dear bruijntje0909

Thank you for your sweet words.

We are glad that you enjoyed the hotel and that you appreciated the service of early check in, the breakfast and the cleanliness. When the breakfast area is crowded there are more seats in our lovely bar.

Hopes to see you soon again!

We selected this hotel based on TripAdvisor photos and reviewers' comments. We arrived June 2, 2013, and were greatly disappointed in the hotel. The lobby and the rest of the hotel seemed like a hostel. The hotel is a maze or corridors. I felt that a fire would be deadly to guests not familiar with the layout. Our room was poorly lit, the telephone had no audio so it was impossible to conduct a call, there was no safe, and it was not air conditioned. The worse hotel we stayed at in our 2 + weeks in Russia, Finland, Estonia, and Sweden. We thought it was going to be a quaint, upscale boutique hotel. Were we surprised. It is anything but.

Dear Carl C,

Thank you for taking your time to write this review.

As you mentioned we get many great words from our guests on Tripadvisor which is very much appreciated.

Hotel Hellsten has been assigned with four stars by the Swedish hotel classification system that is included in the Hotelstars Union, a common classification system for European countries.

The hotel is located in a rebuilt old family house which was formerly private flats, why all of our rooms and corridors vary in size and shape. The Hotel is equipped with a centrally located cooling system providing all rooms with cool air which controls the overall temperature in the Hotel. Valuables and personal belongings can be left at the front desk to be stored in our safe until further use.

We apologize that there was no audio in your room telephone, and we have now made sure that this is working.

We sincerely hope that you would consider staying with us again when visiting Stockholm.

Kind Regards,
Per Hellsten
