Recommended length of visit: 1-2 hours
Owner description: The Unesco World Heritage Skogskyrkogården is beautiful all year round, much due to the unique way it is woven into the landscape. The cemetery never closes, so you can easily acces the World Heritage when you prefer, throughout the year. More than 2,000 funeral ceremonies take place at the Skogskyrkogården each year. This means that the five chapels are in frequent use and therefore closed to the public. If you are interested in the chapels and their interiors, come along for a public guided tour or book a private tour. We also have audio and visitor's guides, which you can download prior to your visit. Please visit our website for more information.

“Wildlife haven amongst tombs”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 31, 2014

There is no reason to go out of your way to visit this cemetery unless you are one of those people who likes to tick off world heritage sites. It is a 20 minute train ride south of the city centre, a T-bana stop is just outside the entrance. The cemetery covers a huge area but there are no maps to help direct you to notable tombs or monuments - such as Greta Garbo's tomb. The front of the cemetery is lawn with an austere modern building and water feature. Further in start the towering trees. From a nature lover's point of view it is a fantastic setting. I saw deer and a hare casually strolling amongst the trees nibbling at flowers on graves.

“UNESCO World Heritage Site.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 15, 2014

Lovely peaceful excursion. Easy to get to. Get the green underground line to Skogskyrkogården. Turn right out of exit and you are there. Stunning scenery. Many people walk up to Greta Gabo's tomb.
Don't miss the lovely and gorgeous Karl & Kristina's café a stone's throw away from Greta Garbo's tomb. Check opening hours before going!

“Very peaceful to walk around”

A UNESCO world heritage site, this was nice to walk around - just be careful you don't run into any funerals.

“peaceful, idyllic”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 21, 2014

One of the few UNESCO world heritage sites built in the 20th century this is a peaceful woodland cemetery not far from the center of Stockholm. Catch the green line T-Bahn to the station of the same name, about a 20 minute journey from downtown. The setting with the gravestones interspersed among the towering trees is beautiful and incredibly peaceful. Good place for a short walk or a quiet picnic lunch on a weekend afternoon.
