I've travelled all over and have never had a more pleasant experience. The hotel is charming. Each room is different and well furnished in an eclectic style. The staff could not have been more welcoming or helpful. We did actually feel that we were "at home" each time we returned from an outing. The food was better than any other we found in Stockholm, and the chef would prepare anything we wanted for breakfast. Johan was so concerned about our well being, as were the rest of the young staff. It would be difficult for me to find any fault with our five day stay at this wonderful boutique hotel.

Room Tip: Room 2 and 6 are special. Room 1 is the penultimate experience.

My husband and I spent 8 days in Stockholm and ended up splitting the trip to 3 different hotels -- Lydmar first 3 nights; Ett Hem 2 nights; then AirBnB apartment last 3 nights. It ended up being the perfect blend of different experiences to explore the various neighborhoods of Stockholm. Having read some earlier reviews, I was a little concerned on whether people would be snobbish or we'd be charged for every drink offered. To the contrary, everyone, including the guests, were friendly and upon check out, we did not see any additional charges for teas and coffees offered. Having been in Lydmar at first, we felt Ett Hem was a much higher touch hotel experience. The staff are incredibly welcoming, helpful and we truly felt like we were guests at a friends' well appointed town home.

Beyond the service, what I loved most about the hotel is the incredible design details -- it was a feast for the eyes. And no wonder, since the hotel was done by the London-based Ilse Crawford. In the rooms, they offer ipads with Spotify set up so you can play music directly. We had a double on the 3rd floor and though it did feel small, it was well appointed and we made use of the public spaces of the atrium/sunroom and the library and lounge on the first floor. The other room we enjoyed was the amazing sauna/hamam located in the basement. You put a sign on the door and have the entire place to yourself. There is a huge stone heated slab that is wonderful to relax on. My favorite was the overhead bucket of cold water that you fill with a press of a button and then pull on the ropes for the cold shower that apparently Swedes love after coming out of the sauna. It was fantastic!

Now onto somethings that I did not love so much. For first time travelers to Stockholm, Ett Hem may not be the most ideal location since it required taking the T (2 blocks away) to get to most tourist places. It's located by the university in a posh residential neighborhood with little retail stores. Comparatively, Lydmar is a more ideal location being on the waterfront and walking distance to Gamla Stan and we were certainly happy that we started off the trip there. The breakfast buffet at Lydmar was also better -- there is limited selection at Ett Hem and more troubling, the coffees at Ett Hem was just OK I think due to the machine they had (I admit we are bit of a coffee snob. To their credit, the chef did apologize profusely before serving our first cup). Lastly, the shower can flood when using the overhead rain shower head (less so when using the hand-held). There is only a sliver on the floor for the water to drain and no shower door, so by the time you finish, the entire bathroom floor is filled with 1/4 inch of water, which had to be mopped with all the towels they supplied. So the next time, we switched to using the handheld and taking faster showers.

Recommended for those who have already been to Stockholm before; who is not there to take in all the tourist sights, but to relax, enjoy a slower pace and take in the truly wonderful ambiance at the hotel.

We chose Ett Hem for our 12th wedding anniversary and decided to spend the whole of our five day stay in Stockholm at Ett Hem due to the article we read about it in Monocle magazine. The house was beautifully renovated but we found the experience quite cold. The Monocle article emphasized the "unhotelness" of Ett Hem and said guests could "help themselves to the fully stocked fridge at any time of day or night". Well, you couldn't actually help yourself and to find the coffees and teas we had been offered as we arrived "home" itemized on the final bill was a bit "unhomely" considering the exorbitant price paid for the room. Some of the women working there were a bit stitched up. Peter who served us twice for breakfast was very relaxed and chatty as were the chefs. Overall it wasn't a relaxing place to stay. Other guests kept to themselves even when sitting with others in the lounge and by their body language did not want to converse. Hmm. A bit too exclusive!

As with people, so with hotels; arrogance can be an expression of insecurity. 'Exclusive' means that part of the enjoyment lies in the knowledge that the pleasure is unavailable to most people. It's not a noble sentiment. True class is inclusive; take Corbyn & King's London restaurants, where everyone is treated equally, whether they are there for a break from shopping with tea and a teacake or for a prolonged bonus-fuelled blow out.
I took my girlfriend to Stockholm to celebrate my forthcoming birthday. I know and love the city; this was her first time. I chose Ett Hem on the basis of glowing reviews and, from a design perspective it didn't disappoint - it is a flawlessly beautiful and comfortable space.
If only the experience had lived up to the aesthetics. We arrived to find the hotel had no evidence of our booking. This happens, fair enough. However, we found ourselves treated, by the ice maiden at reception, as if this was our problem or mistake and, moreover, both got the palpable feeling that - until the booking could be found - we were anything but welcome. We were imposters, guilty until proven innocent. While we waited for our booking to be retrieved - eventually - from the Small Luxury Hotels of the World website, a guest (the only one we saw all weekend) walked through the lobby and glared at us - twice - as if we had crawled out from under the skirting. I started this feel that I actually had made a mistake; in booking the place at all.
Fortunately, the rest of the weekend went smoothly and the remainder of the staff were unfailingly relaxed, friendly and helpful. But a whiff of snobbery from our unwelcoming welcome hung in the air throughout.
If you are going to call a place 'At Home' and charge a small fortune for the privilege of sharing it, then please put as much thought into designing the customer experience as you do into the cushions. And please, please don't put someone on the front desk who doesn't have the self-awareness to leave their uptightness and froideur at the door when they come to work.
