We stayed for 2 nights in August. We loved the location in Sodermalm, where there were some nice pubs and restaurants. It was an easy 15 minute walk (or 3 stops on the clean and efficient subway!) from Gamla Stan, the Old Town. Room was comfortable - quiet and cool at night. Breakfast was very good - as a previous reviewer mentioned, the Swedish pancakes are amazing!! I'd go back just for them.

Spent a week here - 2 adults + a teen - in August '09. Had deluxe king room, for sleeping space. Compared to other hotel rooms in European Capital cities in the $200-$250/nt. range, this was a spacious, modern & very comfortable place. Amenities familiar to U.S. hotel guests. Clean & quiet.
Great breakfast buffet. Access to swim/health club across the street. Helpful staff.
Sodermalm location excellent as area not overrun with tourist crowds, yet plenty of "mom & pop" type stores/restaurants/cafes within 5 min. walk. Plus, subway stop right there, with quick/easy/efficient access to all of Stockholm.

We stayed in the hotel for 4 nights, and we traveled to Stockholm by train/airplane. It's very easy to get to the hotel by the subway (T-banan), where you just use the green lines in the direction of Hagsätra, Farsta Strand or Skarpnäck. Get of at the station named Skanstull, and there are signs to the hotel which is just outside the south entrance of the subway.

The hotel lobby is large and relaxing. The room was comfortable, and it was a dream to sleep in the bed. Our room had a mix between a bathtub and a shower, and I guess this is how most of the rooms are designed. The only negative about the rooms is that you cannot open the windows, but the air climate system kept the temperature at a cool level during our entire stay.

The hotel has a relaxing area in the 7th floor with a small warm pool (not big enough to swim in though, but just to sit and enjoy the view was nice). It also had the normal sauna.

Breakfast was wonderful, because we could choose between many things, and it was also fresh. They also serve pancakes (which I of course had to eat every day). The eating area was never full, and the first morning (when there was a lot of guests, they opened up a large area in addition so everyone had a place to sit.

Except a slightly rude bartender, the staff were friendly and helpful.

Excellent hotel with good clean facilities. The breakfast is huge and you have lots of choice. The staff are exceptionally friendly and a little bit of Swedish goes a long way. Would recommend to anyone. The spa is very nice on 7th floor and over looks the city. Try and use it as it was quiet at most times.

My friend and I were transferred here after being double booked at the Freys Hotel. This was due to the highly unscrupulous Alpharooms.com - who took our money, but did not pass on our booking! Thankfully the lovely people at Freys pulled out every stop for us and because they were fully booked, transferred us here for one night.

Reception area was beautifully decorated. It looked like a big, modern art gallery and infact there was a rather 'interesting' collection of artsy photographs displaying an alternative take on the Stations of the Cross. This will not be to everyone's taste, but made a striking impression!

Staff on reception were extremely efficient, we didn't have to explain anything about the transfer as they had already been updated. We were given the keys to our room on the eighth floor, and were sent of to the lifts extremely pleased to see an end to our drama! Lift to all guest room floors is granted by key access only, very impressed with this feature as the hotel bar is extremely popular and open late, so it felt reassuring and secure.

Our room was a standard double (I believe) but far exceeded our expectations. Spacious, clean and modern - we even had lovely embroidered white bathrobes! An excellent touch :) Bathroom was huge with a bath and a shower, generous sink and worktop area, lovely fittings and plenty of mirrors. Television in the room was flat screen with plenty of sky channels, BBC world News, MTV as well as several Swedish channels.

We left the room to visit the 7/11 which was just across the road. We noticed there was also an underground directly across from the hotel, so had we stayed longer than one night we would have been well served by the local amenities.

We spent a few hours in the hotel bar on the upper level, which was very well designed, with a huge glass fronted wall allowing dramatic views of the motorway and into the distance of Stockholm by night. We met many friendly people there and had a good time, with bar service being quick and reasonable for hotel prices, we had no complaints there either!

Breakfast the next morning was fantastic. A huge buffet style with something for everyone- cereals, fruit, cold cuts and bread, toast, tea, coffee and juices, as well as yummy cooked items like bacon, egg and sausages. There was much more to choose from, but of course we could only sample so much of it! It is all you can eat but even us Scots have our limits!

I found the staff very pleasant and helpful. We left after the bar closed to find some takeaway food, and they asked us if we knew there was a terrace on our floor. Primarily for the ease of smokers to avoid long trips downstairs, this also doubled up in the morning as providing excellent views of a nearby park and general fresh air breaks. As some people have mentioned the windows in the rooms do not open, which we found slightly uncomfortable for sleeping, but this was not a major problem as air conditioning seemed to make up for it.

When we left again the next morning, reception telephoned Freys for us again to arrange a transfer back over and this could not have been made easier for us. We checked out at 12pm, a very busy time but staff were attentive and again, so super efficient all that all we had to do was enjoy a seat outside and wait for our taxi.

I would love to make a return visit to this hotel. The service, staff, rooms, bar and breakfast were all top class and considering our situation, were made to feel very welcome as guests - even though we hadn't been booked in there originally. 10 out of 10 :)

Stayed in this hotel a few times before moved to Stockholm, recommend to all the friends coming to see the city.
Great service, always deliver what promised. The room quality is great, once stayed in Superior and found it absolutely amazing!
The breakfast is really nice and can satisfy even the most demanding tastes (being a vegetarian myself I’m very happy with it!),
On top floor there is a relax area, it’s quite small but very cosy and nicely done – you can enjoy Stockholm view sitting in the hot tub :)
In my experience the staff was always very nice and helpful, speak good English and ready to help you with anything.
I would recommend this hotel to anyone!
It’s not very very central, but it takes only 10 min by metro to get to the centre, whereas the Södermalm area around is worth visiting. Nice green area next to water – if you go just behind the hotel, plus one of the nicest Stockholm swimming pools - right next to it!

I would agree with all the positive comments that reviewers have made about this good hotel. However, I would like to add a word of warning that the rooms are very uncomfortable in hot weather (yes it can get quite hot in high Summer in Stockholm). All rooms have sealed windows which cannot be opened. The alleged air conditioning is totally ineffective. We had to change rooms after the first hot, sweaty, airless night. We were reallocated a room on the South side of the hotel where we were told the air conditioning was more powerful. In truth it made more noise but had no noticeable improved effect. I was obviously not alone in my discomfort as many rooms had shoes or objects in the doorway to hold open the door to get benefit from the cooler air in the corridor. The Clarion is a good hotel in a good location with friendly helpful staff. Do go and stay there but not in high Summer.
