“A tourist trap that even locals visit”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 17, 2014

My original expectations were not set very high because Aifur seemed like a tourist trap, written about in all the tourist websites and maybe only catering to those who wanted a kitschy viking experience. I was expecting the costumes, decor and music but what I was not expecting the great food and service. Albeit January, I was also surprised to see that there not only tourists but some locals as well. The service was also great, our waitress was courteous, knowledgeable and entertaining. Don't leave without trying some mead, Aifur was well worth the title of my priciest meal in Stockholm.

“Amazing food experience that everyone should try!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 7, 2014

It is like walking into another world. Down the torchl lit stairs into the dining hall dungeon with viking furniture, furs, weapons and table setting. Greeted by a man in authentic viking outfit who kindly showed us where to hang our coats and then lead us to the dining area. But before leading us to the table, he lowered the music and loudly announced me and my boyfriends arrival with name and country to the rest of the guests there, followed by applause. It came as a surprise but this is something they almost always do! And it surely puts a smile on the faces of everyone :)
After being seated, a waitress, also authentically dressed, greeted us and gave us menues. We asked for recommendations on what to drink and she was very professional and knew all about everything on the menu.
The menu is, as everything else, authentic viking and typical swedish. I strongly recommend the "Plate from trögden" as a starter. A plate with various sausages and smoked meats from reindeer (for example reindeer heart. Delicacy!), elk and pig together with cheddar cheese, bread, sauerkraut, mustard and apple jam.
Our main courses were both amazing, as were the mead truffels that we had for dessert.
Service was superb, atmosphere genuine and food over the top. Prices are in my opinion absolutely acceptable, between 250-350 for a main course, if you consider what you get.
I have never before so happily paid the bill like here, because i felt that it was worth it!

This was not just a meal, this was a true experience!

“Don't Miss this Restaurant for Viking Food and Flair!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 21, 2013

I was visiting Stockholm and some friends from Sodermalm recommended this restaurant. What a treat! The decor, the costuming of the staff (and their very friendly attitudes) was just great! The food was very good. Eating a salad with a two prong large fork was an adventure in itself! Highly recommend this restaurant. Make a reservation, though. I came just as they opened and that was a good thing. They fill up fast! Absolutely delightful.

“Really fun, the food is good, go for it”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 13, 2013

This restaurant had been recommended by a Swede. When we saw the touristy location, we were a bit wary, but it was Thanksgiving, and we were Americans traveling in Sweden, so we decided to try it out. It was kitschy, but it was also unique, fun, different and the food was really good, not great. There was very good live music on traditional instruments, and a very funny announcer, who proclaimed where each group of diners were from -- all over the world really, but the majority were Swedes, and the woman I sat next to at long communal tables told me she had come several times, and really enjoyed it. It was so festive and different, and was totally lit by candles. We had a mixed meat platter and some lovely meade wine. I would recommend it for a celebratory event. But be warned, the traditional Viking forks are not too useful!

“A really enjoyable experience”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 6, 2013

We stumbled across Aifur when browsing the Gamla Stan for a restuarant and were warmly invited in by a lovely man in full viking costume. Customer service was warm, friendly and very competent. The food was pricey but the quality was excellent and you'll try something completely different to the usual restaurant fare. I enjoyed using the prong forks. A great experience, well done Aifur!
