Owner description: The City Museum is closed for renovation, to reopen during autumn 2017 with a new permanent exhibition focusing on stories of Stockholm. New exhibition spaces mean that many never-before-seen objects can be displayed. Stockholm's history is an adventure, and you will get to experience it in a brand new way! During the time for renovation we organize public city-walks every day. Most of them in Swedish. You are always welcome to book a private guided tour in English. Available tours in English includes the historic Stockholm and the Old town, the Millennium tours (the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo), ABBA City Walk, The World Heritage Woodland Cemetery and visits to The City Museums four historically restored apartments.

at Slussen, a busy corner in Stockholm, you find this museum showing Stockholm during centuries... Very interesting if you like history, but it also shows thoughts about the future

“The Millennium Tour”
Reviewed August 11, 2012 via mobile

Stockholm City Museum offers a walking tour (The Millennium Tour) that ought to be separately listed by TripAdvisor as a tour rather than a museum.

The Millennium tour costs about $20/person, lasts about 2 hours, and includes 6 stops around Sodermalm. Tickets are available at Stockholm City Museum, but the tour actually starts a few blocks away.

Our tour guide (Osa) informed and entertained us with stories about author Stieg Larsson and the characters in his Millennium Series crime novels (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo). Through her explanation, she also wove in all sorts of facts and details about Stockholm and Swedish culture & society. Any reader of the Larsson books will find the tour to be great fun and easily worth the time and money.

More details on the tour can be found at Stockholm City Museum's website (http://www.stadsmuseum.stockholm.se/index.php?sprak=english)

“A good place to get an understanding of Stockholm's past and present”
Reviewed July 13, 2012

This is a great way to spend several hours getting the 'lay of the land' from Old Stockholm to the present day and projects for the future.

They offer the Millenium Tour a couple of times each week and that was fun to roam the streets and familiarize oneself with the places from the books. Fun for fans of Steiger Larsson.

“Interesting museum, great Millenium tour!”
Reviewed May 19, 2012

We did visit the museum but mostly went for the tour. Our guide was great. She integrated spots from the books with the Swedish and American movies and learned some about Stockholm and Sweden along the way. It allowed us to see some of the places Larsson had in mind as he wrote the books. Really made us wish Stieg had lived to write on...

“Lots of info on Stockholm history and nice for kids”
Reviewed March 24, 2012

Usually has great exhibits concerning Stockholm and it's history. They cater for the kids as well, both with information in the exhibits and a nice play area.
Note that it is no longer free as it used to be though. Entrance is 70 SEK (which gives you access for a calendar year).

They have information in English, but not for everything so it might be slightly less interesting for those who don't know Swedish.

They also have a very nice room with photos and other information on specific areas and streets in Stockholm (Faktarummet). Great if you are interested in a particular place in Stockholm. The opening hours for the room are restircted though so check them before you go.
