Novelty boat (barge) accommodation. We booked a standard cabin with private bathroom and where accommodated in Rygerfjord 2, cabin 41. In the room you could fit a double bed, space for a small suitcase and somewhere to stand, it is al very very tight on space. It it's a boat and that's ultimately what you would expect. The bathroom was also very small but had everything required. As described and expected. The room had undergone recent refurbishment.

There is a small heater for winter months but very little you can do in the summer heat. You are in essence living in a little metal box which gets very hot when the sun is out. Leaving the window open in the evening means you will hear the street traffic and partygoers coming and going.

As lots of people have mentioned the accommodation will sway in the waves however you soon get used to it.

The shared kitchen was brilliant, several large fridges and freezers and well stocked utensils. We had no problems cooking our meals here. (An excellent way to save money in an expensive city!)

The bar on the main boat is a bit hit and miss, we complained about flat beer and we're basically laughed at. Seemed a bit off given we were paying guests.

Overall I'd recommend if you are on a budget but it's nothing special to write home about

Nice place to stay, an hotel with rooms in three boats that allow guests to watch the sea. A nice par at the top of the main boat, and kind staff. Around 30 minutes by foot from the central station and 15 minutes to the historical center. If you walk up the cliffs nearby you can enjoy a wonderful sunset looking at the city!

Room tip: Some rooms have a limited view

As Seniors we were a little apprehensive how we'd find the hostel experience, bunk beds, shared toilets and bathrooms, etc. However, we absolutely loved it! Our cabin was clean and had everything we needed (although a ladder up to the top bunk would have been useful.) The room wasn't tidied at all during the 2 day stay but it didn't bother us. The shared bathrooms were always very clean and there was never a queue. The view from our cabin window on Boat 3 across the water was totally amazing, especially with the wonderful sunsets. The breakfasts were great - everything so fresh and well presented, a great variety of cereals, breads, meat cheese and fish as well as fruit, fruit juice and excellent coffee. We've paid far more for less at 4*hotels. All staff were charming and helpful. Many thanks to all for a great stay at an excellent price. We'll be back!

Room tip: Choose cabins on water not street side for best views

Good location, and an easy walk to the old city centre. Stayed for two nights. Shared bathroom facilities located on the same deck which is ok for a couple of nights. Nice lounge area on the main boat above the reception area.

I stayed here for a night; it was a different experience as I've never actually stayed on a boat hotel before. I guess the only downside is that even though the waters are very calm you can still feel the boat rock a little so it can get a little disorienting. The bathroom (shared) was very clean, but I think someone got locked inside because I got woken up at some point by a person pounding on the door and crying "let me out", so I guess that might be something to worry about..?

The location is a little inconvenient as it's by the river/lake, so it takes a while to walk up into town, but it's a pleasant walk nonetheless.

Overall I think the room was good; really small, but the bed was comfortable. I'd recommend this place for a short stay (1-2 nights), like if you want to experience how it feels to stay on a boat.
