“Value for money within walking distance of old city”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 11, 2012

This old brewery is now a budget hotel within walking distance (15 minutes) from Gamla Stan, but beware of some steep climbs to reach this part of the city. I stayed here for 3 nights. My room on the 3rd floor had shared facilities and was not very big but adequate. The whole place is very clean. There are no lifts. Breakfast is good, bufet style. Free internet. Quiet location. Very friendly personnel. Would go there again when in Stockholm.

I stayed here with a friend while visiting Stockholm for the weekend. We opted for a slightly cheaper, 'shared facilities' room, only because that was all that was left when booking. The room it self was spacious and comfortable with two separate beds. We didn't mind the shared aspect, there were several single toilets as well as a shower area with individual showers and toilets. Next time I would probably try to book further ahead though simply for the convenience off our own bathroom.

The staff was very friendly and the breakfast buffet was above average, with a great selection of breads, meats and cheeses, as well as cereal and yogurt. While most of that is standard at many hotels, the food here was especially fresh and tasty.

The neighborhood may be the best thing this hotel has going for it. There is plenty to do and see within walking distance in this up and coming, trendy neighborhood of Soedern / SoFo.

Overall a great weekend in Stockholm!

Room Tip: West side of the building seemed to have larger rooms, at least on the third floor.

Three of us stayed for 5 nights, sharing a small room and out of the room bathroom facilities. I was ready to feel uncomfortable but it was just fine. In US we are a bit spoiled but really this place is very good deal in incredibly expensive city of Stockholm. Recommended for easy going people who spend most of their time exploring the town and need basic but reasonably comfortable place to sleep. Clean (yet pretty busy in the morning) shared bathrooms, good breakfast, free WiFi, super location.

We arrived late at night and had an unfortunate experience with a cab driver who was ripping us off. I stumbled into the hotel disoriented from a long flight and agitated about this confrontation and begged the night desk clerk to help us negotiate a reasonable resolution. He immediately came out to the street and argued eloquently with the driver on our behalf. Alas, no agreement was reached and we learned a painful lesson about the difference between Stockholm taxis - some are actually independent owners who subtly disguise their cabs as city cabs, but the meter is entirely of their own device and can be twice the normal rate. lesson learned.

After this bumpy start we bonded with the gallant night clerk who was wonderfully sympathetic and set us up in a lovely room overlooking the courtyard. We had a spacious room with a private bathroom, very comfortable bed and huge wardrobe to hang our clothes.

The breakfast, included in the price, was beyond fantastic with fresh whole grain cereals & breads, fresh fruit, AMAZING butter, an assortment of jams, juices, delicious coffee, teas- they think of everything.

The location was perfect, a quite corner in a very fun, trendy area with lots of restaurants and shopping a few streets away.

We loved the hotel and would most definitely stay there again.

Had the best stay we have probably ever had - we arrived at 7 am but got our room right away, thanks to the nice receptionist! The room was comfy and clean. We had to leave early too (6 am) and spent a fun hour drinking coffee at the lobby bar :D Definitely gonna come again if we're visiting Stockholm!

I had a wonderful time in Stockholm and highly recommend the Columbus Hotell based on it's location, friendly staff and reasonable price (for one of the most expensive places I have ever visited).

The only issues would be that we stayed on third floor with a shared bath in a smaller room. This was just fine for us and everything was spotlessly cleaned and cozy/comfortable, etc. However, if you are troubled by stairs and/or a light sleeper, I would suggest getting a private room with bath on the first or second floor if your budget allows.

The hotel breakfast was very good and the staff was very friendly about answering all of our questions. They also have a bar and snacks until midnight which is very nice as well.

Overall, I was pleased and would highly recommend this hotel for the type of travel who is fit, active and likes to spend most of the day outside of the room enjoying sightseeing, restaurants, etc.

I should also mention there is free wifi that worked great and we did enjoy relaxing in the hotel courtyard and lobby for drinks on many nights. It was fantastic.

Please message me if you have any specific questions!

Hi guys. In my opinion one of the best place of stockolm to stay. Stockolm is very expensive ... i stayed on many different capitals of Europe in the past ... but truly Stockolm was highest one. The right solution was this hotel ... best value for price and quality. Continental Breakfast various and copious. The room essential but clean. I booked the one with shared bathroom ... the was clean everyday . The staff was nice and polite. High rate for it.
