Stayed in this central hotel in Stockholm for one night. It was very expencive, but its okey for one night only. Upgraded the room, but can't understad how small the other room must have been, because this was small.

The room was spotless. Bed was very good, but it was two beds together, not a double bed.

Breakfast was in a very nice back yard. Just loved it! They had all I could wish for. This was the only time I was given good service. Must be because the lady working here was not of swedish origin. A scandinavian in general don't know what good service is. Reseption staff looked like they didn't care.

Location was perfect!

The Rica Hotel is located a few blocks from the Central Station in the heart of Stockholm. It is right along the main pedestrian corridor from Gamla Stan and adjacent to shopping and a wonderful food market. But the hotel is being upgraded, so the lobby is small and crowded with tour groups and the staff is stressed. Check-in was slow and bumpy: there was unused staff at the desk monitoring other staff which slowed things further. None had time to answer questions.

The hotel has lifts to rooms on the upper floors, but there are occasional four-riser stairs within the hallway that block full accessibility. Rooms are very small, a corridor with a bed and a window at one end of the room. They are, nonetheless, clean and comfortable with little disturbance from the street below. The bathroom had a stall shower, no tub, with moderate pressure and good hot water. The bathroom was clean and modern, the room had a minibar and free wifi with reasonable download speeds.

The truly outstanding thing about this hotel is the breakfast. It is held on two levels of the inner atrium with stations for hot food, cold food, cereals, fruits, breads, and drinks. The selection is extensive and the staff is attentive and friendly. A late breakfast would serve for the two meals for the day and is included in the price of the room.

The public areas of the hotel may be better once the renovations are complete and the staff can better accommodate tour groups, but the rooms would be very tight for any except couple or solo business travelers.

We stayed here earlier this month for 2 days at the beginning of our 3 week Scandinavian adventure. Yes, there was construction, but it didn't interfere and we felt the price we received through Expedia was reasonable for Sweden. (I wonder if the prices will increase once construction is finished?).

Location was convenient to the train station (we came from the airport by Arlanda Express and walked to the hotel), as well as the attractions we were interested in. Easy walk to Gamla Stan, City Hall and the tram stop by Sergl's Torg to take you to Skansen and Vasa.

Breakfasts were great. We had no problem with room temperature and our bed was good too.

Pros: The hotel is close to the central train station and the breakfasts are good.

Cons: Like many hotels in Stockholm, this one is expensive. There is ongoing construction through 2013 as is evidenced by the boarded up exterior. On weekdays, you will be woken up by nine in the morning by extremely loud construction you will hear even with earplugs and a pillow over your head. On the weekends, it will begin at about eleven o clock or so. Something to keep in mind if you intend to stay out late. Rooms are indeed fairly small and ours was pretty warm at night even with the A/C. Customer service is not great - I placed a wake up call which I never received. Better bring that alarm clock. You can likely find better hotels to stay at.

Room Tip: Definitely don't get one facing the street. Will make loud construction that much louder.

Hotel is central, clean and nice at all.. But the rooms are really small, you can not move after you and your luggage is in the room.. Difficult to manage with air condition, too hot or too cold..!! And bathroom is alsi soooo small.. When you think positive ans negative parts, hotel is reasonable but price is so high for these conditions..

System was down when we tried to check in, so we had to waste about 4 hours until they could figure out a room for us to stay in. The bed was broken and sagged on one side, so we called maintenance to come fix it. The maintenance person was moving things around in the room to make room to move the bed out and dropped a $2500 camera setup onto hardwood floors, luckily it was internally damaged. The internet is a major pain to login to, and stay logged in. You need an unreasonably complicated username and password for each computer every 24 hours, and it will log you out when your computer goes on standby. Lots of remodeling going on in the hotel, be prepared for some noise during the day.
On a positive note, the free breakfast is nice, and the hotel staff is friendly.

Room Tip: Go somewhere else

Centrally located hotel with friendly staff. Room was small but nicely decorated. Breakfast buffet is great with fresh fruits, smoothies and eggs made to order. Close to the Central station and shopping areas.

Big drawback was the temperature; it was very hot in the room early mid July while outside it was nice weather but not that hot. There was a window overlooking the so-called wintergarden, but this is not more than a covered breakfast space. Therefore: no fresh air when opening the window ánd a lot of noise in the early morning when staff was setting up breakfast. Airco did work, but made the air very dry. Staff at reception almost shrugged their shoulders when i complained and didn't try to find me another room or offer anything. Since i was here for a confernece, it was my 'home' for a whole week and i would have preferred a different room or even a different hotel for that matters.

Room Tip: See above: avoid the rooms overlooking the"so-called wintergarden for a fresh night and noise f...
