“Fabulous meal, great vibe”
Reviewed December 12, 2013

This was truly a special meal.. Volt is not stuffy, has excellent service and a very cool vibe overall. The food coming out of the kitchen is extraordinary _ innovative without being pretentious. Recommend going for at least the 4-course tasting menu... Everything was delicious from start to finish and the wines were interesting as well.

“A wonderful introduction to Nordic Cuisine”
Reviewed November 20, 2013

We opted for the six course menu with matching wines and it was our first introduction to Nordic cuisine. Our discovery? Clean composition, not simple in the techniques or the way it was put together, but a small number of ingredients, each with a distinct flavour that stood out. The course of crab, sunchoke, butter and elderberries for example: a pop of sweetness from the berry, the salt of the crab, the taste of butter rather than as a condiment and some beautiful jerusalem artichoke.

I loved this dish, of fennel with almond, sour cream and lard. A use of milk products that would be unusual in Australia or Asian cuisine, the fennel tasting of fennel, not roasted or buttery, gently cooked some how and on the side: shaved lard. Yes, lard! As an ingredient, not a method of cooking. This is my kind of country.

We were happy to receive a menu after the meal which reminded of not only of what we ate, but a list of their partners (ranging from ceramics to herbs, bread, illustration and beekeeping), reflecting their philosophy of local products and sourcing.

All in all: what an amazing meal, great matching wine, and an introduction to a fabulous philosophy and style of cooking, in a super-cool atmosphere with impeccable service. Thanks, Volt!

“Amazing!”
Reviewed September 27, 2013

I and colleagues of mine were taken here by Swedish clients for dinner and what an incredible experience it was. The decor and furnishings were very contemporary and the place had a very laid back feel to it but at the same time was very busy. We had a 7 course tasting menu with paired wines for each course and both food and drink were first class. There was no choice with either the food or the wine - you were entirely in the hands of the chef/somelier although we were of course asked about food allergies before hand. Courses included (just to mention a few) crab with fennel linguine and crispy crab shell, eel and walnut salad with broad beans, fillet of beef with dried and smoked lambs heart and, my particular favourite, goats cheese with natural honey. Wines ranged from France to Austria to Germany and there were some incredible combinations including 'natural' wines that had not been fermented and tasted great. Our waiter was knowledgable and passionate about the food and the wine and gave an in depth explanation of each as it was served. If I had one very minor comment it was that we had to wait a little too long between some of the courses however that just gave us more time to enjoy (and polish off) the wine. I and my colleagues weren' paying so I am afraid I have no idea as to cost but I doubt it was cheap. Fantastic experience.

“Trendy yet laid-back restaurant”
Reviewed June 3, 2013 via mobile

I loved the stylish atmosphere and plain scandinavian decoration. Waitresses were professional but still easygoing. Food was really good, especially bread+butters and abedul ice cream. Bring your significant other here for romantic dinner or come with friends and kids, everything goes!

“Will remember the Birch dessert for a long time.”
Reviewed May 1, 2013

I read about this place on chowhound and it didn't disappoint. We did the 4 course tasting menu which was perfect given we had a late lunch. We also did the wine pairings which were generous and well matched. We stuck to fish given the location and everything was excellent, simple, not over done; yet flavorful and balanced. They let the food do the talking. The birch dessert with salted caramel was extraordinary, like nothing I have ever tasted before. Great meal and attentive service! Go!
