Malardrottningen was a fine choice for our 1 night pre-cruise stay in Stockholm. I may or may not be as good for you.
1. the location is excellent.
2. the price is quite good in an expensive city.
3. I's a BOAT.

We took the Arlanda Express train from ARN to central station in Stockholm. It was quick and easy. A four passenger ticket cost @ $20/pp.

The 10-15 min walk from the station to Malardrottningen was ok, but could be a problem for others. A taxi might be a good option. We chose to walk and had no real troubles. W had been given excellent directions by a very helpful person on the train, so we knew where to go. Upon crossing a small bridge from Gamla Stan to Riddarhplmen, we spotted "our" yacht.

The front desk staff are very helpful. We stored our baggage, since the rooms were not yet ready. With a map and helpful, directions we set off on a 10 min walk to a ferry station. The ferry ride to Djurgardens was a neat way to get a glimpse of the city.

After visiting the Vasa museum, we walked back to Malardrottningen and were given our rooms. Never forget that you are on a boat. Space is precious. My recommendation is to get nothing smaller than the "First Officer's" cabin. Even this may be tight for some. The port side affords a nice view of the harbor, while starboard is limited to the street/dock. There is a comfortable open deck on top for relaxing al fresco.

The restaurant is nice. Morning buffet is surprisingly complete and good...a nice perk.
The front desk summoned a taxi for us and made sure the driver knew exactly which cruise pier we were going to. It cost roughly $40 for our group of 4 (with luggage) to be taken directly to the cruise ship.

We all agreed that Malardrottningen was a cool alternative to a standard hotel. One caveat: access for some may be difficult or impossible. Hallways are narrows. Stairs are steep. Remember, you are on a boat! With this in mind, I recommend Malardrottningen and encourage you to give it a try.

Room Tip: Port side has superior views. Deck 2 is entry level and minimizes access problems. Choose First Officer's cabin or larger.

Excellent central location (in the heart of the Old Town) and service. Guest friendly stuff. Reasonable price. The room was small but it was expectable. And as we were traveling it was interesting to spent the night at the yacht.

We stayed at the Malardrottningen Hotel in Stockholm for 4 nights and loved it. The hotel is in a great location, very close to the old town (Gamla Stan), Royal Palace and other sights. We stayed in a "First Officer's Cabin" which meant we had a double bed, which was great. Being a converted ship means the rooms are small, but ours was comfortable, clean and had great views out over the water. Breakfast was included and was good, with both hot and cold foods available. Unfortunately some of the food on the breakfast buffet was stale and they did not replenish food when it ran out or got cold, but that was the only (small) issue we had the whole time we were there. The staff were very helpful and all spoke impeccable English, and as we booked our room through the hotel's website directly months in advance, we got our room at a great price too. Overall we would definitely recommend the Maladrottningen Hotel if you're in Stockholm and want a unique place to stay that is comfortable and close to everything.

I was debating between giving it a 3 or a 4 and in the end chose a 4 based on location, friendliness of staff and uniqueness, but there are some things you should keep in mind with this hotel.

First, when we were there, it was hot in Sweden and we couldn't open the windows (our room was upstairs port side). There was no air conditioning for the room and we were really warm. In the summer months this could be worse, especially if the ship's air conditioning is not functioning. I was told that the windows can open on the starboard side.

Second, even in a room with a double bed, the room is still very squishy. My husband would have preferred to have paid slightly more for a larger room somewhere else in Stockholm.

Other than that, the hotel offers decent value for Stockholm standards. The breakfast is great with a lot of options. They have a shoe shining machine and water in the lobby. They have Wi-Fi, but it didn't work very well. The staff were very friendly. Bonus, right in front of the hotel is a nice and peaceful open air cafe terrace with a great view of the city that most tourists don’t take advantage of.

So, if the two points mentioned don't bother you, then it's worth considering.

Room Tip: Choose the starboard side for windows that open.

The hotel is a floating one, comprising the yacht of an American heiress from the first half of the twentieth century. It is anchored in a beautiful and historic part of old Stockholm, affording wonderful views of the harbor. It is an easy 15 minute walk from Stockholm Central train station, and a similar walk from the Royal Palace in the heart of the old quarter. The cabins are not large even by European standards, and a double room is actually two bunks, but all in all it makes for a different, refreshing experience. The hotel has many common areas for the use of guests, both on the deck and below, and the breakfast area was bright and airy and pleasant. It doubles during the day as a restaurant. The breakfast buffet was extensive and generous and included both hot and cold items. Staff were pleasant and helpful. The only thing that the hotel could use is some attention to the outside - the paint on the boat is peeling, There is a major construction project going on but it was on the other side of the boat from us.
