I was debating between giving it a 3 or a 4 and in the end chose a 4 based on location, friendliness of staff and uniqueness, but there are some things you should keep in mind with this hotel.

First, when we were there, it was hot in Sweden and we couldn't open the windows (our room was upstairs port side). There was no air conditioning for the room and we were really warm. In the summer months this could be worse, especially if the ship's air conditioning is not functioning. I was told that the windows can open on the starboard side.

Second, even in a room with a double bed, the room is still very squishy. My husband would have preferred to have paid slightly more for a larger room somewhere else in Stockholm.

Other than that, the hotel offers decent value for Stockholm standards. The breakfast is great with a lot of options. They have a shoe shining machine and water in the lobby. They have Wi-Fi, but it didn't work very well. The staff were very friendly. Bonus, right in front of the hotel is a nice and peaceful open air cafe terrace with a great view of the city that most tourists don’t take advantage of.

So, if the two points mentioned don't bother you, then it's worth considering.

Room Tip: Choose the starboard side for windows that open.

The hotel is a floating one, comprising the yacht of an American heiress from the first half of the twentieth century. It is anchored in a beautiful and historic part of old Stockholm, affording wonderful views of the harbor. It is an easy 15 minute walk from Stockholm Central train station, and a similar walk from the Royal Palace in the heart of the old quarter. The cabins are not large even by European standards, and a double room is actually two bunks, but all in all it makes for a different, refreshing experience. The hotel has many common areas for the use of guests, both on the deck and below, and the breakfast area was bright and airy and pleasant. It doubles during the day as a restaurant. The breakfast buffet was extensive and generous and included both hot and cold items. Staff were pleasant and helpful. The only thing that the hotel could use is some attention to the outside - the paint on the boat is peeling, There is a major construction project going on but it was on the other side of the boat from us.

This is not a ***** luxury hotel as such, but if you are looking for a rather unique place full of character and not yet another chain hotel then this is a fine choice. And price was rather low, too! Review based on a one night stay in July (background of spending 80+ nights per year in different hotels around the globe).

Location:
Gamla Stan metro station less than 5 min walk, ~15 min walk to the Central Station. Immediate neighborhood is quiet with mostly governmental buildings and a church but the Gamla Stan with a large variety of restaurants, shops, museums and bars literally a stone’s throw away. So this is rather nicely located just away from the major crowds & noise but still certainly close enough for the action.

Room:
I had a single bed “Sailors cabin” at the first floor, view was unfortunately towards the Riddarholm but otherwise there was nothing to complain. Some signs of usage in the room, nothing really out of ordinary as such though since the room was clean anyway.

Décor was, well, nautical :-) Toilet/shower section recently completely renovated. There was some noise from the corridor, quiet otherwise.

All in all the room was small (as expected in a boat!) but completely adequate.

Etc:
Breakfast was quite good with a rather wide selection, though orange juice from the machine did taste very industrial. That issue is very well compensated by the nice views over the water.

A lot of narrow corridors & stairs so probably not the best possible choice in case you are “mobility challenged”.

Quick & efficient check-in & out.

Would I return there?
Why not, an interesting old yacht turned into an inexpensive nicely located hotel

I recently stayed on The Malardrottningen and I was very impressed, The staff were very friendly and always willing to assist me in whatever I threw at them. The room was very good, although if I had to pick fault, the room I stayed in had no opening window and the aircon was very substandard with no control which made the room stuffy and unpleasant at night in the heat. having said this, the Yacht was very cute and I was able to learn about Lady Woolworth who owned the boat in the 20's/30's Over all I will be staying there again and Location to all of the major things in Stockholm are so easy as the Gamla Stan underground is just a two minute walk from the Hotel.

Room Tip: Make sure you book a room with a window and try and get the outside of the yacht as the view is better

Good location in the middle of Stockholm, nice view from the resturant, (My room view was container and a gangplank tough ;-) My room was fresh and the shower recently renovated, the worksman had done a bit of a bad job in some parts (Cosmetic faults) but overall it was very nice. Okey breakfast but on saturday more then 30 minutes before closing it was badly restocked but better the next day. Quite worth the price and I could see myself staying there again, Cleaning of rooms not a 100%, found masking tape from renovation in the shower room, what else do they miss if something that obvious is around? The folder with hotel info was not to helpful. Just a short history of the ship and some safety information. No resturant menu, no map (Of Stockholm, or the ship), points of interests etc
