I spent a week in the Scandic Malmen with my husband and eight-year old daughter. The family room was well-designed; our daughter had her own separate room adjoining the main bedroom. The first room we were given, however - 617 - was vile. Chipped paint, chunks taken out of the walls at the corners, stained curtains - just awful. I immediately went down to reception and requested another room. We were given another room without question; I think the woman at the desk knew about the state of the first room. The second room - 628 - was perfectly adequate: freshly painted with new furniture. I was still disappointed, however, as the room looked nothing like the cool photos on the website.

There are three lifts that are all quite small, so we did have to wait several times for extended periods to get down to the lobby. On one occasion, my husband had to walk up six flights of stairs as a large group of visitors who did not speak Swedish or English were confused by the keycard system to use the lift and had all three lifts jammed for 20 minutes. The staff did nothing to resolve the situation, which was typical of their attitude in my view.

The location is great - the heart of Sodermalm and above a t-bana station. It is noisy, however, so if you're a light sleeper, be warned. The cooling system was not adequate to keep the room cool at night and the street noise was loud if the window was open.

Good points included the excellent breakfast - fresh and plentiful. My daughter loved the funky decor in the lobby. The beds were very comfortable and the shower was fine.

Overall, I would say that this hotel was a bit of a disappointment and would recommend others to shop around for a nicer property.

On the web pages the hotel looks good. But in reality, the (standard) room looked nothing like the pictures - at least my room was a reminiscence of an eighties motel room - very basic furniture, no mini bar, no safe, air conditioning was there, but did not do anything. Most likely the room was renovated last in the eighties (possibly early nineties). The one plus was that there was and integrated iron/board in the room.

The location of the hotel was very good - right in the middle of Södermalm, close to restaurants and night spots, and over a metro station. My room was on the 6th floor, facing the street, and I could still hear the noice from the street and the restaurants from the opposite side of the street. My room was also directly opposite the bells on the wall of the building opposite to the hotel, so in the morning I got woken ip by bells.

They have the Scandic standard breakfast, with very good variety. The breakfast room is very crowded tho. Both mornings I ended up eating the breakfast at the bar, because there were no free tables. They serve breakfast from 7 to 12 during the summer, probably the restaurant could have been a bit less crowded earlier of later (I had my breakfasts at 9.30 and 11)

In principle the hotel was clean, but the bin in the room was totally disgusting. Scandic Malmen aims to be green, which as such is good (they claim that the hotel totally runs on water power), but if you have a separate bin compartment for organic waste, I would expect you to wash the bins. The one in the room was coated with something grayish, probably mold.

For me this was the lowest end Scandic I've visited. The location and reception staff were good, but the hotel room was an almost total let down.

This place was pretty bland. The room was small and unattractive. Bathroom had no counter space at all. There was an annoying noise similar to a pipe creaking (or something) which began early morning(3am) and lasted till about 10am each night. Sounded like water dripping onto a metal sheet every 30 seconds.
Internet with a printer in lobby was nice surprise.
Overall, I think I could have done much better and wouldn't recommend unless travelling by myself and I got a bargain on a room

This is crowded hotel in a crowded and lively part of Stockholm. The location is excellent just off Medborgarplatsen, but as suggested by earlier reviewers that makes it subject to lots of noise and the bar/nightclub in the hotel does not improve that. This would have been ok if we had not stayed during the warmer summer days and the cooling device in the room did not suffice. It is to warm to keep you window shut and to noisy outside to leave it open. After mentioning it to the staff I got was told that "Yes and in the winter it gets cold", not very comforting :)

As suggested by other travellers we book at room high up in the building. This worked fine from a noise perspective but got us trapped in the "lift shortage". Too few too small lifts made us spend up to 15 minutes to get from our floor to the reception.

Having said all that this is one of the better priced hotels in Stockholm and given the hotels excellent location not everything can be in mint condition (we paid 952 SEK per night). To our great suprice we received a welcoming gift of some grapes and two drink vouchers to the hotel bar. Nice gesture! Breakfast buffet is also good (although the restaurant is very crowded in the morning.) There is good car parking available at 190 SEK per 24 hours only a few minutes walk away.

This was the last hotel of our road trip, and the one we had put the most effort into getting right re-locaton and comfort for the budget. We booked in for 3 nights, Thurs, Fri and Sat. The hotel is very funky, with good interiors. We were initally delighted that you had to use your keycard to get the lifts to work. The rooms were a fair size, and had ample storage, an iron, and a hair dryer. Ice machines are located on every floor.I can not understand a previous reviwers commet re the showers not being refurbished, as ours was very modern. The breakfast was great, and had the traditiona Swedish offer, as well as toast and hot food like bacon, and scrambled eggs. I found the staff at all times helpfull and polite, and book your airport cab through the reception, as we got reduced rate. The wake up call is odd, it comes through the T.V., and is not very loud.

We had a very pleasent stay here, but I should warn other guests of the noise. On Thurs, our first night, we came back to the hotel around 1am in the morning, and it was a nice quite hotel lobby. On Friday and Saturday nights however, it was a different story, the club in the lounge was open, and the noise level was crazy. We were over the club, but on the 4th floor. We could hear the noise in our rooms, but is was not loud enough to keep us awake. (Background noise level) However, if you were on the first or second floors, I can olny imagine what those guests suffered through. One guest rang reception as I was booking our cab to the airport and demanded to be moved. (They were moved). I would reccomend any room for a weekday. But be very careful on a weekend, 4th or higher, espically if you have kids.
