This hotel is truly charming and magical... the rooms are especially appreciated if you accept that its age is from a time when we were not around. The imperfections of is heritage are forgivable.

The reception staff are lazy and terrible. It was a warm evening and despite note after note from the owner and manager stating that fans are provided for convenience; when asked the female appeared disinterested and the male that was taking over for the evening thought it was ok not to even speak or address the guest but instead speak with the female stating they only had one fan in the reception area. Other incidents alluding to their disregard for customers was evident throughout the stay.

Yes this is a 3 star hotel but does not mean the service provision can be so unsatisfactory.

To the owner of this beautiful establishment - I’m sorry to say that because of the appalling staff I would recommend no one stay and I won’t return. The best way to demonstrate dissatisfaction in by your feet. And surely a 100SEK fan available for every room is not too much to ask.

We stayed here 2 nights following a cruise. The hotel is situated about a mile walking distance to Gamla Stan (Stockholm old town and palace). Nice safe walk to get there. There is also a metro stop close by.

Hotel is quaint and clean. Rooms are extremely small so don’t be misled by photos. We were shocked when opening the door as to where to even place our luggage. There was approximately one-foot to walk on one side of the bed and two feet on the other. Luggage had to line the bed and be placed on the bed to be able to retrieve anything. Bathroom was modern with walk-in shower and was comfortable.

Full breakfast was served and was generous and tastey. Service was helpful and friendly. We’d left something after checking out and they were kind enough to mail it to our home.

Overall, this is a nice accommodation for a couple of days while sightseeing or on business. There is no air conditioning, although a fan and open air was adequate for the climate.

Thank you for taking your time to write a review on your stay with us.
We are glad you appreciated the over feeling of the hotel and its location as well as our selection of breakfast.

Regarding the size of our rooms Hotel Hellstens Malmgård is situated in a rebuilt mansion from 1770. It is a remarkable historic building which has been declared a cultural heritage site. Therefore the renovation of this house has been done very carefully. Due to this, the rooms are indeed very different both in size and design. Since all of our rooms are unique we do wish for our guests to let us know if they are not happy with the room, The small double room is an option we want to keep open to our guests travelling on a tight budget.

We hope that we will have the pleasure of welcoming you to us again in the future if you come back to Stockholm!

Kind regards,
Marlene

Hotel Hellstens Malmgard was our base for exploring Stockholm from 29th May till 5th June 2018. Located in the quiet north-east corner of Sodermalm it was literally two minute walk to the nearest T Bahn underground station and only 4 stops from T Centralen.
The hotel was full of character. It was clean and simple. Our room was unlike any hotel room we have ever stayed in. It had a large "antechamber" containing an ornate dining table and chairs. The bedroom itself had a large, comfortable 4 poster bed and a great outlook over the hotel courtyard.
If you want fridges, mini bars, or trouser presses look elsewhere. But if you want unique, characterful rooms that are clean and comfortable and affordable look no further.
Breakfast was of the buffet variety but there was an extensive range of food on offer with both vegetarian and vegan options availabe. There was a lovely outdoor terrace for sitting on and eating breakfast.
Finally, the staff were top notch in terms of politeness, friendliness and helpfulness.
All in all the next time I travel to Stockholm we would definitely stay here again.

Room tip: Book direct with the hotel and book well in advance and state quite clearly any requirements

Receptionist was very friendly and helpful. Our room 203 was unique with a genuine 4 poster. This is a very old building (approx. 1770) that was a grand home turned it a modern hotel, so each room is likely to be different. Bathroom was a good size but the actual toilet room was miniscule. Breakfast (included ) served in a basement cellar was excellent. The hotel is within 200m of Zinkesdamm Tunnelban (metro) though we actually walked back from Gamla Stan on each of our 3 nights.

Coffee for free, Wi-Fi works fine, umbrellas for free, very clean. Very friendly service. I slept so good there.

Some points could be better:
Smoking on the terrace shouldn't be allowed at breakfast. Eating breakfast while someone's smoking is disgusting.
The place at breakfast is very cramped. No place to put the plate on for putting stuff on it (three hands needed :-)).
No place to bring the dirty dishes back.
Maybe some more hooks for clothes in the room or a bigger closet would be fine.
