An excellent viking display, and a very self aware look at the interpretation of archaeology through the ages.

I visited this museum in January, during my first trip to Stockholm. I personally think it is one of the best "history museums" I've ever visited. The main reason for saying this, is that the museum provides a very clear and interesting explanation of Swedish history.

The tour is structured in ten chapters, one of each for every century in Swedish history. Also, every chapter is focused in a different aspect of "Swedish life"; e.g. if I recall correctly the thirteenth century is focused on religion.

I also think it is a very good place to come with little kids, because the museum has many parts entirely dedicated to kids (or at least "child-proof").

The whole viking thing worked for my son and he toured the museum in his viking hat which was accepted without a blink. The museum is well laid out and the medieval paintings beautiful.

Was really impressed by the way the artefacts were laid out in all the swedish museums. Brilliant collection of viking artefacts and viking gold.

my main reason to visit this museum was to see the famed Gold room and it didnt disappoint - simply stunning. well laid out and again plenty to keep kids occupied. you can do this, skansen and the national History museum as they are all close together.
