There's loads to see in the Royal Palace, a ticket gets you into three different parts and is great. The Palace is stunning inside, not all of the royal apartments were open but the bit we saw was great.

Be sure to check what's going on as some other parts may sometimes close also.

Be sure to check out the changing of the guards, again it's not always on so check before you go. We managed to see it and it was great, they explain it all in Swedish and English.

The idea of a royal palace is not very compatible with my idea of Sweden or the Swedish society. However, the palace is a pleasant place and gives a good idea of the splendor of the past. The guides seem to focus on the "greatness" of Sweden instead of just telling you how the history really evolved. Quite typical for royal palace experience, in that sense but nothing special.

At the edge of the old heart of the city is the Royal Palace. It was interesting to visit and learn how the royal families of Sweden lived in comparison with their European neighbors. From the Royal Palace it is only a few minutes walking to other attractions such as the Nobel Museum and several churches.

We enjoyed our visit to the Palace. I recommend you get there in time to see the changing of the guard, which is at 12:15 pm. The museum itself is small and can be visited in about an hour; it's all about King Gustav and covers the time since his coronation. No photography is allowed and they appeared to be enforcing the rule.

1. Fine if they want to show the world that the royal family is a practical type and do not spend much on maintaining the palace. Then, they should not have charged that kind of entrance fee for each of the royal palace attraction.
2. The "no photo taking" signs are set inside the rooms and not at the entrance. If they do not want visitors to take photos at all, why not move the sign to the entrance? They could even assign a guide to inform every visitor before entering rather than having a staff coming out of the rooms to shout at visitors taking photos outside the rooms.
3. The most long winded change of guard parade I've been, including giving useless info (at least to me) about who composed the music to be played in different languages.
Spend your time elsewhere, e.g. city hall or the old town.
