“Very impressive palace”
Reviewed April 4, 2013 via mobile

The tour groups were super annoying and wouldn't part to let people move past, so be aware that you'll have to fight your way through. It puts a bit of a damper on the experience, but the rooms are so magnificent that you'll get past it pretty quick! Make sure you read the signs because you get a lot of added information.

“Royal Palace Stockholm”
Reviewed April 1, 2013

I visited the Royal Palace (Kungliga Slottet) at Stockholm on March 28, 2013.
On the outside it is very impressive. It's huge (the biggest in Europe).
Inside you can visit three attractions: the Royal Apartments, the Treasury and the Kronor Museum. The Royal Apartments are interesting although I've seen more luxurious apartments in most royal palaces in Europe. Fine but not outstanding.
The Treasury is interesting because you can see the showcases containing all the royal crowns, sceptres, orbs, and regalia used in the country in the last 500 years. The guide was very scholarly and explained everything in detail and with humour. The main problem here was that you cannot touch anything. They seem to think that we are going to spoil, break or destroy the few artistic objects they have. The fact was that nobody was touching anything, of course, but suddenly a security guard came along and pushed us aside because she said that we were approaching the showcases ????
The last part, the Kronor is a kind of little museum with old tools and utensils used in the old palace. The most interesting part here is a documentary of the different phases of the castle that eventually became a royal residence. And also very interesting in this area is that there is a free toilet. At the palace entrance there is another toilet but you have to pay.
Fine, but if you are not too keen on museums or are short of money you'd better see the palace from the outside.

“Grand palace, lots of history, not so good tour”
Reviewed March 21, 2013

The palace, situated in Gamla Stan, has a lot to offer with a tour of the public rooms, the treasury and the change of guards (have different timings on different days of the week). It holds the distinction of one of the oldest royal palaces still in use for its original purpose.

We went on a Sunday and everything was open (Palace is closed on Monday and Treasury opens late on Sunday). The change of guards is interesting with the soldiers showing a lot of passion for something they do every day. We then took a tour of the palace and I was a bit disappointed by the guide. She couldn't hold our attention and I saw a lot of people giving up half way through. The public rooms of the palace are quite interesting, as mentioned earlier this palace has a lot of history being built on the site of the Tre Kronor palace that perished in the 17th century. It is also the office of the King and not his residence.

If short on time, plan your trip to coincide with the change of guards and spend some time in the Treasury.

For purchasing souvenirs, use the shop next to the ticket office, that has more (and better) goods than the one in near the Treasury.
