For a 3-Star certificated hotel, you expect more; this is basically an upmarket Bed & Breakfast. However, you are right in the middle of the Old Town, with only a 1 minute walk to the subway, which gets you to the central rail station in about 1 minute, so a great location for business travellers and tourists alike.
What is very positive is the location, as you are literally just around the corner from the waterfront and all of the attractions of the Old Town.
It was a bit pricey - I paid €170 for an overnight stay plus breakfast (buffet & plentiful!) and had a pretty small room, but it certainly wasn't the worst hotel I've ever satyed in!

When my boyfriend and I decided to travel to Stockholm for a week, we read mostly about hotels located in "the city" or in Sodermalm, the gentrifying and youthful part of Stockholm. However, when we spoke with a number of our Swedish friends and told them we'd chosen a hotel in the Gamla Stan, they said it was obvious we had done our research. The Gamla Stan is one of the most beautiful and quiet areas of the city, and in the perfect location to access all of the city's treasures. Walking through the Gamla Stan at night was one of our favorite activities. That said, the Hotel Rica Gamla Stan is a great place to stay in that neighborhood. It's relatively small and unimposing, but our room was pretty and clean, the service was efficient, and the hotel breakfast was delicious. It had the feel of a bed and breakfast, which ended up being just right.

We spent four nights here meeting up with friends who had travelled over from Finland. Overall, a really nice hotel. Although part of the Rica chain it felt individual. I've stayed in corporate hotels in Sweden and this was so much nicer. Although others have said the rooms are small, ours was a decent enough size with attractively finished modern bathroom. In fact it feels rather like a B&B, with no restaurant, room service or bar. This doesn't really matter as the hotel is excellently located in easy walking distance of plenty of bars and restaurants. Describing it as having a "waterfront location" is pushing it a bit, as the waterfront is down the street and round the corner.

We worked out the best thing to do was to go to the (very near) Systembolaget (government liquor store) and buy a bottle there. Then get a takeaway from the excellent Thai or Indian restaurants in the street outside, and make the hotel roof terrace your own restaurant. The hotel was fine with this arrangement, and were happy to supply plates and cutlery. It was lovely weather so we spent a lot of time up there. Apologies right now if you were in the adjacent rooms when licorice liqueur led to much hilarity.

Anything wrong? Well the breakfast room was much too small for the hotel. So just take your breakfast up onto the roof, although the lift is equally snug and you won't get many people or breakfasts in there. Also there was no air con which is probably normal in Sweden. Nights were hot and noisy with the windows open. But we liked it and would certainly go back on another trip to Stockholm.

My wife and I were stayed at the hotel for three nights, while on vacation. As a diamond Hilton Honors member, we were upgraded to a business suite with a balcony facing Gamla Stan. Otherwise, picturesque views with a location near public transportation stops. The staff were friendly and very knowledgeable. We took full advantage of the exceptional executive lounge. The food and free beer, wine, and liquor were plentiful. The breakfasts consisted of ordinary mainstays; however, you knew you were in Sweden based on the local breakfast options. It was great.
Later in the day, we took advantage of the appetizers and free drinks. If you do not know already, alcoholic drinks in Sweden are expensive, so we saved a considerable amount of money.
Otherwise, we had an above average sized room and the bathroom was also roomy, but you had to basically step over a hurdle to get into the tub/shower. The only issue was that the room was a little warm, but we just kept the balcony door open.
I would definitely stay there again.

The girl at the desk was lovely and very helpful.
The room was appointed nicely, but bathroom was a bit small.
The location was perfect and Gamla Stan is beautiful and was my personal favorite on our vacation.
The breakfast had a nice selection of food and having the internet available in the hotel, was very convient.
We liked the location the best.
Parking is a problem. Not having a car is the best idea.
The staff and ambiance of the hotel was just perfect. Thank you for making our stay in Gamla Stan so pleasant.

Perfectly situated in the heart of Gamla Stan, the Rica hotel was comfortable and convenient for everything in Stockholm - a 3 minute walk to the ferry to Djurgarden; and a short walk to the centre and Ostermalm. We were upgraded to a suite at no extra charge and the breakfasts contained everything you would need (cereals; breads; fruits; local delicacies; and a small cooked offering). Although the rooms are small (the suite was small so I would imagine the standard rooms are tiny), if this is not a massive concern, this is an excellent choice of hotel. The reception staff were helpful in offering advice and booking/checking availability of restaurants and attractions. For me, there was little to fault with the Rica Hotel Gamla Stan
