“Great Location and good service”
Reviewed June 24, 2009

Perfectly situated in the heart of Gamla Stan, the Rica hotel was comfortable and convenient for everything in Stockholm - a 3 minute walk to the ferry to Djurgarden; and a short walk to the centre and Ostermalm. We were upgraded to a suite at no extra charge and the breakfasts contained everything you would need (cereals; breads; fruits; local delicacies; and a small cooked offering). Although the rooms are small (the suite was small so I would imagine the standard rooms are tiny), if this is not a massive concern, this is an excellent choice of hotel. The reception staff were helpful in offering advice and booking/checking availability of restaurants and attractions. For me, there was little to fault with the Rica Hotel Gamla Stan

Small hotel in a fantastic location in the old city of stockholm. Great breakfast included . Much more atmosphere than the large chain hotels. Staff very helpful. Room was comfortable especially the beds, quaint furnishing but modern bathroom (small, but very clean and well mantained). Recommend to stay on the upper floors . Great value , highly recommend.

We stayed here on a brief trip (3days) to Stockholm primarily to go to the opera. Nevertheless, we also devoted the days to sightseeing, my friends having not been to Stockholm before and it being my first return visit since 1970.

The hotel could not be better situated, right in the ancient heart of the city and but a short walk from the Gamla Stan underground station. The city itself is fairly compact, so most things that tourists are likely to want to see are within reasonably easy walking distance. The hotel is well appointed: the reception staff are friendly and efficient and so help create a welcoming atmosphere on arrival. However, the rooms that we occupied were small and had very little storage space: this would create a real problem for anything longer than a 2-3 day stay. By contrast, the breakfasts were generous. Be sure not to miss the Swedish deli corner of the breakfast buffet. Also, the free wifi was a most welcome facility.

So far as we were able to establish, Stockholm is not a particularly late dining city. Although this could have presented us with a bit of a problem (our preference being to dine after the opera rather than before it), we found that bars/beer houses did stay open late had brief but very welcome menus, mainly focused on local food.,

Husband & I spent 3 nights pre cruise summer of 2008. Great location in the old section of town Gamla Stan. Many nearby restaurants and shops. Relatively easy access to subway. Pleasant old style hotel with understated style. Room not huge but large for by European standards - newly renovated bathroom. Were at back of hotel so only rooftop view but was quiet. Delicous and extensive Scandinavian cold breakfast buffet which was included in our room rate. There was hot buffet (eggs & British/American style breakfast) available for extra cost - not worth it as cold buffet was so complete. Front desk staff very friendly & helpful. Hint - if you need taxi have hotel arrange for fixed price.

This is a really well situated hotel in the old town and within walking distance of most things we wanted to see. The staff were pleasant and the breakfast was great. Our only quibble was about clothes storage - I had come from a conference so had two different types of clothes with me and, as it was cold, a winter coat, jumpers, scarves, boots etc and there was only a tiny amount of storage which was open and had not been dusted for a long while! But we coped and are already planning another trip.

Sweden is great and we enjoyed everything in Stockholm, particularly the Vasa Museet and the Nordiska Museet which can be reached by a ferry which leaves from very near the hotel. The Gamla Stan can seem very touristy but there are quieter areas and it is all really beautiful. Drinks are very expensive but we really enjoyed a beer at the Glenfiddich. Yes, I know this is whisky but they also serve local beers which are strong and delicious. All the food is marvellous - we went for the Swedish specialities, like SOS - particularly good with aquavit. The one thing not to be missed is hot chocolate, cinnamon buns and marzipan pastries at Sundbergs Konditori, the oldest coffee shop in Stockholm.
